Ok, now I have to ask: does anyone know WHY Britney Spears' kids are ALWAYS called by their full names (first and middle) ? It's always Sean Preston and Jayden James, in the press, in the web news, everywhere. Is that a Southern thing to do? Do you think they actually go by those names at home? For some reason, I'd always thought it was just the media that had somehow gotten into the habit of doing that with her kids, but then I read that she sent out XMas family cards, signed with her name and her kids' full names.

So what's the deal? I've never heard it that way with any other celebrity kid.

lol I always wondered this too. Sean is sometimes even called Preston at times and Jayden is called J.J. sometimes too. I'm guessing the media just calls them by their full names because of how Britney may address them in interviews or something? I have heard that it's a pretty common thing that Southerns do, as well.

Well her sister goes by Jamie Lynn, not just Jamie...so *shrug*
I'm in Ohio and I know a Mary Lou. She's older and her family is from Kentucky. Her siblings don't go by first and middle name though. Just her. I don't know how people, celebrity or not, decide that :-P maybe she just likes how it sounds?

well Jamie Lynn's full name is Jamie Lynn Marie Spears, so I always assumed that she was given two first names...

Well it is a southern thing to call the children by their first and middle names. Not everyone does it, but it's common enough.

i call a lot of my friends by first and middle name, but that's not what they are called by other people, maybe it's just because that's how britney herself refers to them? i just like the way some names flow.

multiple names for southern girls is a very common thing to do: Mary Page, Nancy Wright, Mary Catherine etc. I don't know why they do it for the boys.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matt Broderick's son is always called James Wilkie. He's never referred to as just James, I always wonder why.

I think it may be a media thing just as much as a Southern thing (if, in fact, it is a Southern thing). After Nicole Kidman's daughter was born, she was always referred to as 'Sunday Rose'; very rarely was it ever just Sunday. It's died off now, but it does happen.

I've got no problem with it, I just think it has it's place. And Sean often gets called 'Preston' (Britney even has a necklace with 'Preston' and 'Jayden' on it) which sometimes makes me wonder why she didn't just call him that in the first place.

i heard that she and kevin were planning on naming him preston, but kevin convinced britney to use sean as his first name after they got a message from diddy (aka sean combs) saying congratulations on the pregnancy. i have no idea if this is true though..just something i heard.
