today my brother was telling me about two girls he goes to school with:

Aijaa (prn. Asia)
Ashah (prn. Aysha)

both atrocious, IMO. they're both freshmen in high school, so 14-15 years old.
comments?

One of my good friends, age 15 and only a week or so older than me, spells her name Asyia, prn Asia, so I can't say I'm surprised to see that spelling. They run rampant where I'm from, unfortunately. It's horrible.

I don't even know how one gets Asia from Asyia. The spelling looks like Ay-zhee-uh... or something.

"The spelling looks like Ay-zhee-uh"

Ha, that's exactly how I sounded Asyia out before I saw you typed it!

I kind of like the name Asia, but mostly as a guilty pleasure. Those spellings are atrocious :(

I taught a little girl named Aja... But her entire family pronounced it Aa-JUH not Asia as I was inclined to say it.

I'd like them a lot better if the spellings were reasonable.

I'm not crazy about those spellings either, and think the name is just Ok, and prefer it on a girl, and I'm not sure why even though I don't think it stands out as strictly feminine.

Did you know Shania Twain's son is Eja prn. the same as Asia?

Not sure if that's from her Native American heritage.

Ever since I was a kid and watched the cartoon Jem and the Holograms, I've liked the name of one of her band members, of which I am not sure how it was spelled, but it sounds more like "Aw-shuh".
