WDYT of the name

Ismene

Obviously I had to read Antigone and that is where I got the name from. Also, how would you pronounce it?

it looked pretty until you asked how we would pronounce it.

then i realized i would pronounce it "iz meen" as in "is mean" :(

I was thinking Is-mee-nee.

Is-mee-nee.

I like it, but I don't really like the connotations.

agreed.

Well, because of pronunciations I come up with "Is-men-ay" or "Is-men-ne(as in french ne) and "Ease-men-uh/Ease-me-nuh", I can't say I like it. I also don't like the pronunciation "Is-meen" as in "is mean". It is sort of like the name Esmé, which I actually like, provided Esmé is pronounced "Ez/Es-may".

I don't like it at all, because of the connotation, sound, and look of it. I only like one name that starts with I, and that's Ivy.

There was a girl in my sister's grade named Ismene. Everyone always said "Ismene is mean".

(Edited because I can't type.)

My professor pronounced it "Is-may-nee," which I thought was pretty. I loved Antigone!

That's how my teachers said it too.

Iz-men is how I would pronounce it. I think it is really pretty, and I might even put it on my 'will use' list.

In English I would pronounce it Ismeen (which is unfortunate, I think) and int Dutch we pronounce it Is-MAY-neh.

Is-men-ee is how I would pronounce it.
It's one of those I think sound better than it looks.

It's pronounced iz-MAY-nee.

And it happens to be one of my favorite girls' names of all time. :o)

Iz-may-nee or Iz-mee-nee

I like it...but I wouldn't use it for a child. I have three ferrets: Antigone, Ismene, and Creon. <.< They go by Tig/Tiggy and Iz/Izzy. Creon is just Creon.

Ahaha, that's awesome! ^_^

I was planning on getting a kitty and naming her Antigone, calling her Tiggy for short, but I wasn't sure if I got the idea from someone here or if I came up with it myself. I was thinking it was the former :P

<3 Thanks. I love having pet names that go together (my cats are Gin & Tonic), so when the second ferret came home it just seemed natural to name her Ismeme to go with Antigone. And Creon is obviously following the same pattern. ~.^

I believe the Greek pronunciation would be something like iss-meh-nee, not is-mean.

Also, I like it.
