I'm thinking naming my next daughter Malaiya would be a little tacky since my other daughters name is Makayla..
Problem is I really like it. What do you all think?

Save it for a middle name. It will be way too cutesy to have rhyming names. Or consider the name "Malia" which is pronounced Ma-Lee-Uh, so only one syllable difference in pronunciation.

Malia is Barack Obama's first daughter's name. Really pretty. :)

*grins* You're in Canada, so I cant blame you. :D The emphasis is on the second syllable, btw: muh-LEE-uh.

I knew and I'm from Canada. I love their names. Plus I get really into American politics. So much more interesting than Canadian politics..

Well, I assumed that there is way less coverage on the girls than there is here in the States, which is why she might've not known. :)

Well if it's tacky it's a no-go. Case closed. Natchy-matchy names for sibs is just so wrong; it robs them from their individuality. On a personal level, Malaiya isn't my style at all; I find the name made-up.

It's horrible on its own, even worse when your other daughter's name is Makayla.

I think that the name is pretty bad all by itself, and does look made up. And I think it would be beyond tacky to have their names match that much.

Sorry, but too cutesy, like naming dolls.

To be honest, I have no idea how to pronounce it. I'm looking at it going MA-lay-yuh? Meh-LYE-yuh, Meh-LAY-yah? And I have to agree, it is way to close to Makayla--it would be hard to call them both without getting confused, lol!

you know, before I came to this community I had no idea Makayla was a creative spelling for Michaela. I'd always thought it had the same origin, but I genuinely thought it was pronounced Mah-KY-lah. Now I wish :P

Yeah, it is pretty tacky. The name itself looks made up, and it looks way too close to Makayla. It also almost rhymes. So I wouldn't use it. If you want another M name...

Maura

Disgustingly tacky, although it goes well Makayla because of it.

it's definitely way too close to makayla. it'd be like naming your daughters jamie and amy or devin and kevin. it'll seem like you did it intentionally.

what about something similar to malaiya? like leia (lay-uh), leah, or layne?

I really like Malaya, spelled like that. I usually don't care whether sibling names match or not, but Malaya & Makayla really is too close. I agree with the first comment; use it as a middle name. After all, it's really pretty!
