Just curious, because I've heard it pronounced all three ways, though I like the first pronunciation the best.

In The Duchess, it was pronounced jor-JAY-nuh. I don't like any of those pronunciations though, so I say jor-gee-ah-nuh. I don't plan on using it, so I don't have to worry about saying it correctly. I think that jor-JAY-nuh is the correct one though.

I've heard both Jor-JYAH-nuh and Jor-jee-AH-nuh. The first one is how the character Georgiana in Pride and Prejudice gets pronounced. But they're kind of the same thing, just said at different speeds.

If I wasn't familiar with P&P, I think my first inclination would be to pronounce it Jor-jee-AN-nuh.

I've never heard Jor-JAY-nuh, but I don't like it. There's no reason from the way that the name is spelled to be pronouncing it like that.

Yes! In North America (i.e. USA + Canada), the R in the word "are" is pronounced, like a consonant. Most Scots and Irish people pronounce it as well. You know the R sound your tongue makes in the word "errand"? It's THAT sound. A real Arrrrr.

In England, Australia, Wales, and New Zealand, it's silent and like an "ah" sound.

If an American reads your description of jor-jee-are-nuh, they're going to say it in their heads or out loud as something VERY VERY different to what you meant to convey!

I say jor-jee-YAH-nuh. I think sometimes it comes out more like jor-JYAH-nuh, but they seem like pretty much the same thing only the second way is said more quickly so the sounds run together more.

Jor-JAY-nuh sounds kind of neat, but it sounds like it should be a different name to me.
