Do you think Annabel Lee for a girl would be too cheesy? I love Annabel, the poem, and the way they sound together, but I'm afraid it might be a bit too much.

I do think it's too much, although I find that naming babies after literature characters is far more classy than famous people. I like Annabel, but I would choose a different middle name. Either a really short one (Annabel Joy) or a really long one (Annabel Christina).

I don't think it's cheesy, but it does give me the chills. The association with the poem is so strong, and let's face it, it's a really CREEPY poem. I don't think I'd want my name to be associated with a watery grave.

When I was younger (ten, eleven) I used to love Annabelle Leigh, I didn't care about Edgar Allen Poe - it sounded too good to let that stop me from liking it. Now I still like it but the like has faded.

Do agree with ewaeva
It is a beautiful name, but the association is pretty strong and not exactly positive.
Still many people wouldn't get it, and middle names aren't used much anyway so might not be too bad.

Yup- if any friends in school find out about the middle name, the kid'll be known forevermore as "Annabelly".

I think its nice, aside from that. And don't worry about the commection to the poem - not enough people will recognize the name from a creepy poem - I'm fairly well read, and I don't make that connection.

it makes me think of a southern woman with a southern accent. I like it but I wouldn't use it myself. NOt cheesy to me. :)

My mom almost named me Annabelle Lee, and I think it's beautiful.

I don't mind the association with the poem. It's the "and a belly" that sounds really weird to me.

I like Annabel, but I think Lee is way too masculine to go with it. Almost anything sounds better... Annabel May, Annabel Grace...

Just to add, I knew sisters, Annabel (Lee) and Lenore, both named after Poe's poems. Their parents were fanatics. I think it's adorable and they loved their names.

I absolutely adore Anabelle (i prefer to spell it his way)- probably going to be daughter #2's name.
I think the poem is lovely, but i dont like Lee... it seems like a thuggish boys name to me. But you know and relate it to the poem so if you love it then use it. I dont think it's at all cheesy.
