so the boy and i were at his sisters house last night and were talking about babies, hopefully coming soon.

sister LOVES francesca, as do i. boy HATES it... "it sounds like a soda" he says. boo. hiss.

we both love ruby, its our number one. sister put on a brave face but i could tell is lukewarm about it.

i started talking about how i need to use a name that has a great nickname because i nickname everyone. so i started rambling off the names i have on my list that have the built in nicknames and got to "josephine would be josie..." and the boy perked up. he LOVES josie and would deal with josephine since she would probably rarely be called that, just the full name formality, which i do not always deem necessary, but in this case, i dont think josie is a wise choice as a full name.

what do you guys think of josephine? josefine? sister pushed the idea of just using josie, she seemed to think it was fine. for reference her daughter is named zoe, which i also adore, but alas, it is already used.

anyway, it doesnt make much difference what sister has to say, but i am just rambling on because i am bored at home waiting for the boy to get home from work.

middle name will be colleen, after my mother who passed away almost 5 years ago. i am aware that it rhymes, but it is a non-negotiable. in general, how do you think it sounds?

josephine colleen?
josefine colleen?
josie colleen?

I like Josephine and Colleen but not together. I think it's the een sound at the end.

I like Josephine and Josie, but I can't stand it with Colleen. It's way too rhyme-y for me.

What about Jocelyn Colleen? It sounds very similar to Josephine, you could still do the Josie nickname and it sounds much better with Colleen.

I absolutely love Josephine Colleen, with Josie as a nickname. Josie seems a bit incomplete to be a full name, but Josephine is one of my absolute favorites.

I like Josephine and I think Josie is very cute, but I agree that it's better used as a nickname.

Josephine & Colleen definitely both have the E sound, but honestly, I don't think they have to flow perfectly -- middle names are hardly ever used anyway & Colleen is obviously very meaningful to you, so I think Josephine Colleen would be a perfect name. :)

I don't love the name Josephine, but there are other names with nn Josie. I like Josina.

When I looked up Josina, it came up with a few other suggestions, too:

I love Josephine, Josie and Colleen, however I don't think Josephine Colleen sounds that great due eo the rhyme :\

I like Ruby too, btw. I just read a cute novel where the main character was this really quirky chick named Ruby.

Out of all the possibilities, Josie Colleen sounds the best. And I'm actuall not against "Josie" as a full first name, though I do prefer it as a nickname for Josephine (which is my number 3 favorite girls name!!)

Josie Colleen sounds better. But I love Josephine.

I love Josephine, and I think Josie is too nicknamey to be used on its own.

Josephine Colleen is nice, but it sounds weird. If that doesn't bother you, I think it's fine.

Jocelyn Colleen, nn Josie, could work, too.

I like Josephine, with Josie as a nickname (always good to give the child a more formal one to use if she wants as an adult) but it doesn't quite flow with Colleen... unless maybe you put in a one-syllable second name and made Colleen third?

It's awesome.

It's not something I would use, but I think Josephine Colleen sounds good! And Josie is a cute name.

I adore Josephine, Josefina even more so.

Josephine Colleen sounds awful, but Josefina Colleen sounds fantastic :-)

I like Josephine! :)
I always think of the song "Come Josephine on my flying machine", after hearing it in the movie Titanic.

Josephine Colleen, however, is a no-no. They end the same.
Josie is a nickname, so I can't recommed it as a first name.

I personally don't like it, but Jacqueline is similar, so maybe it's an option?

Josephine, nn Josie. Josefine looks odd to me, and Josie is a cute nick name, but not a full name, to me.

Okay, I really dislike second middle names, but this is a situation where I think it could be very helpful. Love Josephine, love Josie, don't mind Colleen, but they sound pretty bad together due to the rhyme. Even saying it with something like Josephine Rose Colleen made it worlds better. I would consider this if you want to use both Josephine and Colleen together.

I'd second the commenter who recommended Josephina as a way to solve the rhyming problem.

I'd use caution with the second middle name - some states don't allow you to use two middle names.

I was toying with Josephine as a middle name to honor my late grandfather (Joseph) but I kept thinking "mean, mean Josephine...she takes her bath in gasoline, her eyes are red- her hair is green..." you get the picture
I guess I'm not mature enough to use the name

I love Josephine, I love Colleen, but not the two of them together. I actually like Josie Colleen as a "full" name.

I like the name Josie, but I am biased. I have a tiny cousin called Josie and she's hilarious.

*sigh*

Jospehine is lovely name. It just doesn't go with Collen though. The rhyming IMO is just too much. I'd look for another first name and save Josephine for a second daughter. However, rhyming doesn't bug others as much as it does me and they're not really going to be spoken often together, so do what you will. Josie is a cute nickname, but I'd go with the full Josephine for the name.
