Nov. 27th, 2008 12:13 amso the boy and i were at his sisters house last night and were talking about babies, hopefully coming soon.
sister LOVES francesca, as do i. boy HATES it... "it sounds like a soda" he says. boo. hiss.
we both love ruby, its our number one. sister put on a brave face but i could tell is lukewarm about it.
i started talking about how i need to use a name that has a great nickname because i nickname everyone. so i started rambling off the names i have on my list that have the built in nicknames and got to "josephine would be josie..." and the boy perked up. he LOVES josie and would deal with josephine since she would probably rarely be called that, just the full name formality, which i do not always deem necessary, but in this case, i dont think josie is a wise choice as a full name.
what do you guys think of josephine? josefine? sister pushed the idea of just using josie, she seemed to think it was fine. for reference her daughter is named zoe, which i also adore, but alas, it is already used.
anyway, it doesnt make much difference what sister has to say, but i am just rambling on because i am bored at home waiting for the boy to get home from work.
middle name will be colleen, after my mother who passed away almost 5 years ago. i am aware that it rhymes, but it is a non-negotiable. in general, how do you think it sounds?
josephine colleen?
josefine colleen?
josie colleen?

Date: 2008-11-27 05:51 am (UTC)What about Jocelyn Colleen? It sounds very similar to Josephine, you could still do the Josie nickname and it sounds much better with Colleen.

Date: 2008-11-27 06:07 am (UTC)Josephine & Colleen definitely both have the E sound, but honestly, I don't think they have to flow perfectly -- middle names are hardly ever used anyway & Colleen is obviously very meaningful to you, so I think Josephine Colleen would be a perfect name. :)

Date: 2008-11-27 07:27 am (UTC)Josephine Colleen is nice, but it sounds weird. If that doesn't bother you, I think it's fine.
Jocelyn Colleen, nn Josie, could work, too.

Date: 2008-11-27 01:52 pm (UTC)I always think of the song "Come Josephine on my flying machine", after hearing it in the movie Titanic.
Josephine Colleen, however, is a no-no. They end the same.
Josie is a nickname, so I can't recommed it as a first name.
I personally don't like it, but Jacqueline is similar, so maybe it's an option?

Date: 2008-11-30 07:07 am (UTC)Jospehine is lovely name. It just doesn't go with Collen though. The rhyming IMO is just too much. I'd look for another first name and save Josephine for a second daughter. However, rhyming doesn't bug others as much as it does me and they're not really going to be spoken often together, so do what you will. Josie is a cute nickname, but I'd go with the full Josephine for the name.
