[identity profile] jordle.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My father just sent me an email because he knows I 'study names'! (Bless him!)

A teacher at his school just had a daughter -

Evelit Skye (Pronounced Ever-lit)

O_0

Also my sister's cousin-in-law had twin girls a few months ago

Angelina Jasmine Holly
and
Shardai Nikita Paris

Shardai is quite possibly the worst name I've ever heard. How she'll grow up to be anything other than a stripper is beyond me. Holly and Paris were chosen by the older half siblings (Who are called Courtney and Jake).

Maybe the OP is British, where the "R" would be silent.

I know, but in this community I have heard someone saying that Sian is pronounced like "Sharn", etc. so I know that there are people with that type of accent in this community. Also, I never said it wasn't a legitimate question; I was just offering a suggestion. I'm sorry for making a generalization about all British accents; I should have done more research before posting that comment.

I read it as Ever-lit, I think because I read Evelyn and Eve-uh-lin rather than eve-lin, and that's what it sort of reminds me of...

Aw, that's sweet that your dad e-mailed me. Mine just had to listen to me, the other day on the phone, telling him all about the current name trends. I thought it wa so good of him to put up with it. ^^

Everlit Skye is kind of cute, but I think it would be best reserved for a fantasy character. It bothers me that Evelit doesn't have the R in it. Without it, I'm afraid people would say "evil it" or something.

Neither in the twin set have any sort of flow and the names don't seem to really go togehter. I think it's weird that one has Jasmine and Holly in her name since they're both flowers. The entire second name sounds quite trashy to me. :\

No, to my Aus accent Evelit looks like ev-uh-lit (like the OPs pronounciation minus the r).

Haha, how awesome that he sent you an e-mail!

I think Angelina Jasmine Holly isn't so bad. Angelina is actually really pretty. I really don't like Shardai Nikita Paris though!

Evelit is odd. But I do like Skye.

I'm not a bag fan of first name/middle name combos that form descriptions or stories. Names like 'Summer Rain' etc always struck me as a bit much. And all together that just looks like the sky never gets dark.

Shardai Nikita Paris is so badass :P not sure if in the good or bad way..
Angelina Jasmine Holly is quite feminine and sparkly, and I'm not opposed to that, the only thing that bothers me about it is the two plant names next to each other.

If Shardai pursues her stripping career, I hope her signature song is "Smooth Operator." I can just imagine what good use she'd put to, "Across the north and south to Key Largo."
