lol, that's what I thought when I first saw it too! But he actually pronounces it 'ollie', and its supposed to be like a shortening of Alessandro =)

I think it's pretty common as a NN for Alessandro in Italy actually. Maybe it's an accent issue - I've always heard it pronounced in the same way as the beginning of Alessandro, which for me is not pronounced the same as Ollie, but might be in the OP's accent?

Yeah the other times I've heard it was pronounced 'ah-lay' which is why I thought it was weird that this kid's name was pronounced 'ollie'

I like Miles, Rusty (as a nickname, but I've always liked it), Cecelia (spelled the way my middle name is, yay!), Gemma, and Loren.

Are you sure Mirielle wasn't spelled Mireille? Because when it's spelled 'ie' I want to pronounce it like MEER-ee-elle, while Mireille is a French name. But either way, I'm not a fan.

I do like Miles, Lucia, Gemma, Luna & Piper a lot, though.

These aren't all from the same class, but most of them are in the 2nd grade at the school. I thought it was interesting that there are so many odd names at the school, especially in the younger grades.
