Russian names?
Apr. 24th, 2006 08:42 pmIn the Russian class I'm taking we've all adopted Russian names, similar to our own. So I thought I'd see what people thought.
I am Katya (Ekaterina - Katherine).
Girls:
Svieta (Svetlana - means "light")
Kira (Erm, Kira?)
Lara (Laura)
Nina (Nicole?)
Anya (Anne/Anna)
Margarita (Margaret)
Sonya (?)
Natasha (Natalie)
Lena (Elena)
Vera (means "faith")
Daria
Zoya
Boys:
Boris
Ivan (John)
Dmitri
Pyotr (Peter)
Pavel (Paul)
Sergei
Opinions? I'm not planning on using any, just curious. :)

I also like ...
Anastasia
Irina
Maria
Natalia
Tatiana
Zenaide
Alexei
Illya
Mikhail nn Misha
Nicholai
Sascha (as a nn for Alexander)
Vassily
Kira is actually a Persian name, but obviously commonly used in Russia that it kind of qualifies as 'Russian'. It was certainly used by the aristocracy back in the day, and that's good enough for me. :)
Similiar deal with Felix, though that's Latin.
Good luck with your class, am most jealous :)

Date: 2006-04-24 02:49 pm (UTC)I hate the name Daria, but I think that's because everyone mispronounces my name that way. =\
For the guys I'm not sure I really like any of those you mentioned... Maybe Dmitri. Yeah, that's kind of cute. =D
