What are your opinions on the name Meridan, for a girl? Pronounced MARE-uh-din. Any alternate spellings you like better or think would look nice?

I read it as Meridian the first time. As in, the Prime Meridian.

Funny, I read it that way too and then felt silly. But, now I see that it is a very common problem!

Meridin is a town in CT. I would not name my child this.

I read that as Meridian, like the Prime Meridian. It's alright, nothing I would shake my head at if I saw a girl with this name. I prefer Meredith.

It's a town in CT. It sort of sounds pretty, but I just think of the place.

It sounds like "mierda" to me, which is "shit" in Spanish, hahaha.

I don't really like it... I do like Marin for a girl, though, which is kind of similar.

It would never, ever, ever in a million years be pronounced correctly by anyone outside the immediate family. Only one letter away from Meridian, which would not only spawn "Prime Meridian" jokes, but it is also a city in my home state of Mississippi. So I have to pass.

I read it as you pronounced it and I think it's Ok. Just has connotations, as mentioned. Like the place in CT which I've never heard of. And that it does sort of sound like what a hotel might be called. Also, the nick name Mer (sounds like Mare) is a female horse, so that might play into teasing.

At first, I thought it was Meridian. Then I started to say it like Meridith. It's not a name that I've ever seen or heard before. It's really not my style, so I can't say if I actually like it or not. I can't picture it looking any better with a different spelling though.

I like it. I don't live in CT, never heard of the hotel chain, and didn't consider the Prime Meridian until I read someone else's comment! lol

It's pronounced the way it is written and feels familiar when I say it. It reminds me of Meredith. Meredan....nah I like Meridan better. The more I say it the more I like it. I've loved the name Meredith for a while but my husband's best friend has a sister named Meredith so he (my husband) says we will not be using it ever!

Meridan
Meredith
Maryn
Merritt

I really like that sound combination.

i pronounced it correctly before i even read your pronunciation guide :)

i live in massachusetts and so i know of meriden, connecticut, but thats kind of irrelevant to me, especially if you live in georgia.

i think its fine, as is the "mare" nickname! my cousins name is meredith and goes by mare all the time.

It looks like Meridian misspelled to me. Actually, Meridian would be okay to me (yay geography!), or certainly okayer than Meridan.

Eh, it's not totally tragic. Certainly not something I'd choose, though.

I do like Maren, Meredith and Sheridan, which are all kind of similar to Meridan.
