I've seen that before. We also used to know a little girl named Emalee. Ours is Emilie. I obviously like the name...but not alternate spellings besides Emilie.

i actually like that way better than emily. kind of late mary kate, emma kate, mary ann etc. i've considered naming our future child emma= first name leigh= middle name.

I actually don't read it as Emily (EM-il-ee), but as Emma Lee (emma LEE).

Yeah, I was confused about what the problem with it was at first -- I read it the same as you did.

me too. i thought, well, they could have put a space in between, but it isn't that awful.

it the girl's name is actually emily, i don't like that as much.

I actually like that. I'm fond of variations on Emma. The parents probably wanted to be cre8tive but I like the Emma names, and I'd use it.

ive seen it before and it drives me nuts. to me, its like people who dont want to decide between naming her emma or emily. make a decision and stick to it!

Maybe if it was "Emma Leigh" - first and middle. Not Emmaleigh as one whole name though. Yuck.

To each their own, I don't think it's as terrible as some of the horrendous made up names that have passed through here.

Maybe the parents wanted to honor some important and loved family members, and granted to some it looks odd to pair what we see as two separate names, into one, but it really isn't that out there and I say Emily, like the name Emmaleigh, as in "Emma-lee", so if they liked the sound of Emily, but maybe wanted to honor some relatives by using Emma and Leigh, then they achieved what they wanted, if that is the case. Either way, at least Emmaleigh won't have to worry about being taunted as she would if she had the name Shitonya, or Orangejello or Cigarette, or one of the other crazy names I've learned from this community, that people have given their kids.

I think I say Emily and Emmaleigh differently. Like Emily is em ih lee and Emmaleigh is Emma lee. I hate the name Emma too, which doesn't help.

I think it's a dumb way to spell Emily, but it could definitely be worse.

It could be worse. If I used it, I wouldn't bother with a middle name, though...that would just make it too long.

I like it, actually.

I don't really see it as Emily. I see it as Emma-Leigh. Which, I know, seems like the same thing, but I don't think it is. Emmaleigh isn't that bad.
