what are some names that you just find really awkward to pronounce/say?

i always have trouble with aurora and rory. there are just too many r's and it just sounds weird to me. that being said, i actually like aurora. too bad i can barely say it.

my own name...LOL.

Jena is occasionally a tongue twister, esp. when i'm talking fast as in "thank you for calling _____ this is Jena speaking, to better assist you ..."

People think my name is anything from Janice to Janet to Ena.

Is it pronounced like Jenna or Gina or something else?

it's like Jena, but I can't tell you how many times I've been called Gina...my own fault. I called myself it and left out the second 'n' because i didn't want to be associated with a Jenna I knew at the time.

I agree with you on Aurora. But, I still gave my daughter that name because I think it's very pretty (And not something you see all. the. damn. time). :) My mom actually calls her "Rah-rah" because she has a hard time with it. *Shrug* Hahaha.

Aurora is hard for me to say, too. I had difficulty with my own name, Adrienne, when I was younger. I could pronounce it, I just found the r in the middle awkward.

and Anselm. which would be this baby's name (if it turns out to be a boy) except for the fact that I can't say it :/

I agree about Aurora. I really like it, too, but I always feel like I have to say it with a different accent or something for it to sound right.

I have a lot of names that I can say fine, I just don't like how they sound when I say them. Like, with my accent, words that have an "an" sound in them don't sound very good, unless I'm really thinking about how I say them. So names like Anne, Anna, Andrew, etc...

I couldn't say my own name (Natasha) until I was about 5. That's why I just go by Tash/Tasha most of the time. It stuck from childhood.

Aurora isn't super hard for me to say, but I can see where it would be, especially saying it fast.

Saoirse. That is hard for me.

My daughter plays with a little girl named Saoirse, I still think it sounds wrong when I say it. Some of the other kids call her Swisha ;)

Sanae - my old landlady's name :0
Leah - every other girl in high school was named this and they ALL pronounced it differently
Kirsten - I have to stop myself from saying Kristen every time
Lucia - love this name, can't decide how to say the C sound
Aislin and all its variants - always comes out like Ass-lyn

Aurora for me too. And Laurel, feels like I'm gargling.

I totally agree on both of these names. I like them both pretty well in theory, but I don't like how they end up sounding. I HATE how they feel in my mouth. Olga would be another name that feels weird to me.

Hard ones for me are Siobhan and Saoirse.

My own name annoys me sometimes because it's Anna pronounced like anne-nah but a lot of people like to say it on-ah which I don't like. And sometimes people think it's Hannah. For whatever reason I often get miscalled Amy. People tell me all the time I look like an Amy. At least they remember my name starts with an A!

It happens with my last name too. I say Wolf like the animal but people think it's Wills or I get Fox a lot because they can't remember which animal it is!

I also have a hard time with Aurora.
And a lot of celtic/gaelic/lord of the rings inspired names that aren't pronounced like their spelled- Sibohn, Aisling, Eowyn, etc.
My step-niece's daughter is named Arawen (not sure if that's how it's spelled), and I have a hard time saying that too- not sure if it should be ar-ah-wen or just ar-wen, and the W just feels wrong to me for some reason, like it should be maybe be an R instead, but not really. The W feels like "baby-talk", but then the R doesn't really feel "right" either. I don't know...

My daughter's name is Catherine. She's 4 and still has trouble with it. Most of the time she says her name is "Tat-ta-win!"

Yes! I agree with Aurora. It's really hard for me. Also, Layla.

I hadn't even read the second part of your post yet, and I already thought: 'Aurora!' In Dutch, it's really easy and it's actually kind of pretty, because the 'r's roll more...but in English it just sounds like 'roaroar' to me.

I totally agree with the name Rory. Its impossible to say!

I also have a hard time with the name Hugh. It sounds like a sneeze or something.

I'm horrible with those two names, as well. I'm not so good with certain names that end in R, like Artur or Piotr. If there was a vowel after that, then it'd be easy!

It's a surprise for me that so many people seem to have troubles with pronouncing Aurora! In my language the pronounciation is really simple and beautiful. We pronounce the a differet and our r's and k's t's and such are a lot more subtle than in English anyway.

I have trouble proouncing Siobhan and Saoirse. I used to have troubles with Róisín, too, but now I've learned to pronounce it properly. I can't think of anything else right now. I mean, I have trouble with any English name at first since it's not my first language but most of them are not that hard to pronounce.
