I thought Libby was a nickname for Elizabeth.
I'm not a big fan of the name. And not just because I briefly had a neurotic history teacher named Mr. Libby.

I've always heard Libby as a nickname for Elizabeth. I've never heard Libia before.

One of my childhood friends was named Elizabeth, and we've only ever called her Libby.

And "Libia" for some reason reminds me of Labia... so, I'm not really a fan of the name...

Libia reminds me of both Libya and labia, neither being stellar associations for a child's name.

Libby is generally short for Elizabeth or Olivia. I have never heard Libia before and it reminds me of labia.

I've heard Libby as a nickname for Liberty and Elizabeth.

I HATE Libia. It's too close to Labia.

Agree with the Labia likeness.

i like libby as a nickname for elis/zabeth, but it has bad connotations with a crazy girl i used to know so i wouldn't use it.

Libia, Labia, way too similar. Way too close. And as well, I'm with most everybody else, I've only ever heard Libby as a nickname for Elizabeth.

Never knew this was short for Elizabeth but I must disagree witht he whole Libia/Labia thing... didnt't really occur to me. I like Livia betetr though... I think it's silly with some of he things that make you think of something else. Don't get me wrong there *are* names that are waaay too close to other things but then... some just aren't. For example Lana is anal spelt backwards which is TERRIBLE but many people think it's fine and Allan is a perfect name and it resempbles the word 'Anal' a lot... don't even need to add letters. Don't know if I am making since on this O.O

Echoing those who have heard Libby as a nn for Elizabeth. One of my closest friends growing up was an Elizabeth "Libby."

I didn't really think about the Libia/labia similarity until other people pointed it out.

As cute as Libia might seem, she's going to get teased in school (middle or high school obviously, elementary kids usually dont know about labia's), and be called Labia, or something of the likes. I've always heard it as a nickname for Elizabeth. Liberty isn't really a name IMO.

Libia in italian is an African state, but I've always heard Libby as short for Elizabeth.

Not that labia has bad connotations imo, you can't actually get more feminine than that, but it is kinda close..and I'm not a fan of names that can be confused with a word. Word names and names that mean a word are my cup of tea, though.

I'm with everyone else. Libby devires from Elizabeth. Libia/Libya is a country. No comment on the other association, although I agree.

Libby is generally short for Elizabeth . . .

Libia is awful. (1) Close to labia, and also (2) a misspelling of Libya.

I've known of an Elizabeth that went by Libby, and also a Liberty that went by that name. Never heard of Libia as a name.

Sorry, I'm essentially repeating what everyone else said. :)

I think Libby is cute as a nickname for a young child. But then again, the Elizabeth that went by that name still goes by Libby at age 25, so what do I know.
