[identity profile] prlsb4swiine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
sorry for posting so many.

Female

*Eurydice [yoo-rid-eh-see]
*Aphrodite
Calypso
Circe [sur-see]
*Dirce [dir-kee] (not sure about this pronunciation)
Antiope [anne-tie-oh-pee]
*Ariadne [ah-ree-ahd-nee]
*Astarte [es-tahr-tee]
*Eos [ee-awss]

Male

*Dionysus [die-uh-nye-sus] (i actually think this might be the roman version, but I'm not sure)
Nestor
Priam [pry-ehm]
*Theseus [thee-see-us]

The ones I like are starred. WDYT? Anymore greek names? I don't think I'd use any of these, except maybe Ariadne as a middle name, the rest are tucked away for guilty pleasure. =]

I like Ariadne, and I kind of like Nestor and Theseus.

My issue with so many of these names is that they are tied way too closely for me to mythological characters with really unfortunate stories haha. Especially Priam.

They're all beautiful in their own way but I couldn't use them on a kid. They're guilty pleasures for me too though haha

I've always loved Euridice (spelled like this, as we do here), but I'd never use it. Same with Dido and Aeneas...especially not for siblings! ;)
I also sort of like Clio and Antigone (here, we pronounce that last one as Ahn-TEE-go-nay, which I think is really pretty).

I'm confused about some of those pronounciations. They're not the original ones.

Dionysus is the greek, Bacco is the Roman, if that helps any ;D I study greek mithology a lot at school... I love a lot of the names but it's like... hmm would I really name a child of mine after the God of winr and sex? But they are cute names!

Bacchus is the Roman name for Dionysus, and he's not the 'God of sex'.

Bacco is in spanish so I basically call him that... and it was just an example really...

i know a girl named Athanasia (Uh-THON-ah-SEE-ah), and she goes by Sia. i think it's a beautiful name

It's a bit too close to euthanasia (meaning easeful death). Athanasia means deathlessness as in immortality but that's slightly creepy too.

I love Ariadne. I also really like Calypso.

My Greek teacher's name is Aigli (prn eh-glee), and the Study Abroad coordinator is Efi. I rather like those. :)

I've always liked Calypso. Probably some people would instantly associate it with the music but in itself it's lovely.

I also like Io (f).

I love Ariadne. Enough to use it, but I don't think I ever would...
