Two girls:

Persephone [Per-seff-oh-knee]

Danaё [da-na-eeh]

DanaŃ‘ and Persephone are both gorgeous names to me, but NOT ones I would name my kids. I mean really? Persephone?

WDYT?

Maybe the umlat is what changes it, but I know someone with a daughter named Danae, pronounced "Dan-ay"

I learned to pronounce it kind of like DAHN-eye.

that's the original greek pronounciation :)
same for Persephon-ay

I like Danae, without the umlaut.
I don't like Persephone at all because it ends in "-phone" (prn -phony) and that makes it silly

I don't see what's so wrong with Persephone. I really like it, actually. I also like Briseis and Penelope.

Persephone seems to be rising in popularity. I've seen several of them lately.

I know someone who had a daughter a couple months ago that she named Persephone. And I knew a girl in high school named Lanae (pron. luh-NAY, so it was pron differently but it looks similar). So neither name seems that out there to me.

Heh, Persephone is actually my favorite girls' name. Whether or not I would use it is contingent upon the currently non-existent hubby's opinions and his last name, but if it works, I'd use it!

I agree that both are gorgeous, but I don't know if I'd use them.

I adore Persephone, but I wouldn't give my child a name with an umlaut. My grandmother's maiden name has one and it confuses the hell out of non-German speakers.

I love Persephone, but like you said, I don't know if I could actually name my kid this. It's more of a guilty pleasure than anything, but it's a beautiful name.

I loveeeeeeeee Persephone. If I can get away with it, I think I'll use it as a middle name when I have kids.

There was a Danae at my high school. She pronounced it DAN-ay, but more often than not everyone would call her "Dani."

I think both are pretty, but I agree; I wouldn't use them either.

I would use Persephone WAAYYYYYY before half the stuff that comes through here. Kaycee? Braylin? Peyton? Kaeli? Madison! Mackenzie! Ella, Emma, EveryBody... Arhghghgh.

persephone seems so over the top to me.

I like them both, but I normally wouldn't pronounce Danae like that.

Persephone is rather nice.

(I did up until this moment think it was pronounced PER-SA-FONE. Oops)
