Maggie...?
Apr. 16th, 2006 11:22 pmI posted before, looking for ideas for my brother and his girlfriend (due in September, YAY!). They find out the sex in a little under a month. I'm hoping it's a girl. So is she.
Anyway, she likes the nn "Maggie." My real name is Margaret. My mother's name was Margaret. She doesn't like the name Margaret (can't say I am too big on it either. Heck, I don't even use it anymore except for legal purposes and stuff, but it'll be my first daughter's middle name. One day). Anyway, she doesn't want to use Margaret, but she likes Maggie (and, I agree with her, that Maggie doesn't sound like a full name). So, any thoughts on what Maggie could be a nickname for? She's tossing around "Magdalena" and "Magnolia." I think Magnolia is way fun, though probably only because I think "Steel Magnolias" is the best movie of all time, and it's part of my first real email address I had. Plus, my niece is Lily, so two flower names would be way too cute. But, no one else (including my brother, I think) likes it. *shrugs* Someone suggested Megan (didn't say what spelling, but I think that Meaghan is pretty. *shrugs again*). I have to pass along THAT idea to her.
Any thoughts on other names that could have Maggie as a nickname?

Date: 2006-04-16 09:53 pm (UTC)I think she should name the baby something with Margaret as a middle name, and call her Maggie. People do stuff like that, right? I think.

Date: 2006-04-16 10:22 pm (UTC)i thought this one was nice?: Magali (http://www.behindthename.com/php/view.php?name=magali)
kinda... out there, but who knows? :)
also, has she looked for names with 'mag' sounds in the middle so a nn of Maggie could still apply?

Date: 2006-04-16 10:23 pm (UTC)I can't think of any names with mag in the middle though... can you? If you can, definitely let me know. I just couldn't come up with anything.

Date: 2006-04-17 08:09 am (UTC)Oh, and I forgot to mention, the middle name she has picked out is Mena. She likes Maggie Mena, but thinks the kid should have a more complete sounding name. I don't know. Watch it be a boy and none of this matter, lol.

Date: 2006-04-17 08:26 am (UTC)Apparently her sisters and stuff don't like Magnolia either, but I do. Not that my opinion means squat really, lol. But her sister named HER son Jaelyn (not sure how she spelled it), which everyone else hated, sooo...

Date: 2006-04-17 12:26 pm (UTC)I agree... I like Marigold too. My brother's gf wasn't home when I called a little bit ago. Next time I catch her, I will mention some of these names. :)
