I love them both! Winifred because it has an old-fashioned charm and sounds really spunky, and Wilhelmina because it's down-to-earth and regal at the same time.
But both of those names remind me of a fat lady who sits on her couch barking orders at people... Or witches. But not very good witches, like, the ugly wart-nosed kinds that are in movies.
I hope you don't plan on naming a child either of these names....
I've loved the name Winifred since I was very young, its strange because i totally recognize that its the sort of feminized masculine name that i hate (georgina, danielle, etc), but i love the nn winnie and i love the image i get in my head when i imagine a girl named winifred, i feel like its a name for a really really pretty girl.
I like Winifred a lot more than Wihelmina, but I hate Wilhemina, so it's not really saying much. Wilehmina is just so dramatic and over the top, I can't actually picture it on anybody.
I REALLY don't like Wilhelmina. :\ I don't really care for the nicknames either. Mina (My-nuh) is my neighbor's last name so I always think of their surname and want to pronounce it like that.
I don't like Winifred or Winnie either. It also reminds me of The Wonder Years.
