[identity profile] prlsb4swiine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

inspired by this post. Amino acid names in biology.

Just a few.The gender in the bracket it what gender I think the name would go with.

*Alanine [f]
Arginine [unisex]
Cysteine [f] -- (this one reminds me too much of cystic fibrosis)
Glycine [f]
*Histidine [unisex]
*Leucine [f]
Lysine [f]
Proline [unisex]
Serine [f]
Threoline [unisex]
Tryptophan [m]
*Tyrosine [m]
*Valine [f]

* = most realistic/ favorite.

btw- the -ine ending in all of these is pronounced EEN.

wdyt? What genders do you associate with those names? Any more bio names?

I feel like Valine is the most realistic, and I too would use it for a girl. Tyrosine is kind of cool for a guy. I like Serine for a girl. Other than that I feel like they're all pretty unisex.

I want to like Histidine, but it just makes me think of hysterical, hysterectomy, and for some reason hippopotamus. 0_o

A girl I was an RA for in undergrad was named Ananda. After Anandamide. =P Oddly enough she actually worked in the science field.

I've always told myself that if I become a famous celebrity, I'm having a child named Helicase.

These science-y posts are so great. It makes me feel like an even bigger biology nerd than I already am, but I'm enjoying seeing what everyone likes.

*Alanine [f] = Reminds me of Elaine and Allana but it's not bad.
Arginine [unisex] = I sort of like this
Cysteine [f] = I didn't think Cystic fibrosis at all even after I read you did =S I like it though
Glycine [f] = I don't like this at all.
*Histidine [unisex] = Um... reminds me of a male procedure...
*Leucine [f] = Lukemia is Leucemia in spanish so my mind right away goes there!
Lysine [f] = I don't like this.
Proline [unisex] = I don't like this either.
Serine [f] = This is sort of cute.
Threoline [unisex] = sort of 'meh' about this one
Tryptophan [m] = ?? Just... no.
*Tyrosine [m] = I like it!
*Valine [f] = Valium, cannot stop thinking valium when I see this.

People are already using (http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=facebook+serine) Serine (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=myspace+serine&btnG=Search), presumably a variant of Serene.
