[f] Antigone [anne-tigg-oh-knee]

Not exactly the most wonderful character in all of literature but for some reason I am more and more drawn to her name.

WDYT?

I really like how this name sounds but I hate how it looks written down. And there isn't really an alternate spelling. =/

I like the sound but I always ready it as anti gone.

Antigony? Antygony? Antigynee?

I really like the sound and the look of the name, but I just can't get past the literary association. And I wouldn't even say that she's a bad character, just a tragic one.

I like the sound, but would never use it because of the literary reference.

I dislike it because it would cause pronunciation problems with people reading it as anti-gone. I don't mind tragic references but I'm always wary that the name doesn't rhyme with anything that could cause relentless teasing [I like the name Jane but is rhymes with pain so that's a big no-no in my world and the same thing with Shelly and smelly] or having to spell it out/pronounce it all the time.

Then again, sometimes there is just no escaping stupidity.

My last name is Wolf. One might think that when I say "Wolf, spelled just like the animal" that people would never ever have to ask me if it has an 'e' at the end but I get this A LOT! So annoying! I like my name but people howling at me gets really old after a while so I guess I'm a little obsessed with names because of it.

I love the name, seriously do! I was actually considering her sister's name, Ismene (prn. Is-men-ee)

ismene reminds me of "this many!" like when you ask a child how old they are and they hold up their fingers.

I don't understand how anyone could even think it sounds nice, let alone look nice. Neither is true. Not trying to be mean but. It's so close to antagonize, and Tigger, and misogyny. I think it's a name open to too many avenues of teasing.

If you really like the sound of the name, play around with the sound and spelling and come up with something else that sounds similar but in my opinion, better. =/

I've always really liked the sound of the name too. Like others, I wouldn't use the name, but a big part of that is that I've sort of boycotted the letter A for names. Don't ask.
