Hey, everyone!

1) I love the name Lena, but to me, it sounds too much like a nn to be a given name. (I know that it is a name in its own right, but this is just my own personal preference). My question for you is - what names can you think of that have the 'lena' sound in them (not necessarily that spelling)? I've discovered that I just love the sound, hence why I love the name 'Carolina', but would be afraid that it would be pronounced more like the states than with the lena sound. Anyway, I wouldn't be opposed  to naming a child Lena, I was just wondering if you all knew any longer names with that sound that I might like : )

2) I'm in an RPG *cough* (don't think I'm a nerd lol) as a girl named Susan Taylor. She needs a middle name. I wouldn't be opposed to initials that spell a word; in fact, I think that's kind of cool. But one of my other characters has the initials SET, so I would want something different (and they don't have to spell a word, of course). So basically, names starting with any letter besides E is fair game.
Susan ____ Taylor. What do you think? For what it's worth, she's a snobby, popular 17 year old high school girl.

TIA!

I second this. I think I like "Carolena" better than "Carolina" as a name anyway. The spelling bothers me a little but I love how it sounds! Great, now I think I want to add this to my list (I like Lena too and agree that it feels more like a nn even though it is a name)

1) I really like Lena, but for me completly on its own and not as nickname/short form of a name. Ideas... Alena, Elena, Helena, Ileana. You could try spelling it Carolena.

2) Susan Antionette Taylor (SAT)
Susan Isabel Taylor (Sit)
Susan Natalia Opal Taylor (SNOT)to go with the snobbish angle of the character.
Now one that doesn't spell anything Susan Patricia Taylor.

If you wanted it to be pronounced with the Lena sound, I know a lot of Polish girls called Karolina, pronounced that way. I think people would be more likely to not see the state, if they saw it spelled that way.

Are you pronouncing Lena like LANE-a or LEEN-a? Because thats not the same sound as Carolina at all to me, and I wouldn't pronounce it like the state, I'd pronounce Carolina CaroLEENa, but I'd pronounce Lena like the second part of Elena, LANE-a. Haha that might be the most confusing comment I've ever typed I'm sure there was a more straightforward way to write that.

Susan Marie Taylor. I think it is smart, and it could be pulled off as snobish, but it is not over the top. It's not laughably snobbish, and with a first name of Susan I get the idea that this is what you're going for?

I'd definitely pronounce Carolina like the state, but then, I'm currently living in NC. My first thought for a -lena name was Marlena.

Gah! My immediate suggestion was going to be Elaine! But since E's are out...ah...

Not sure how you're pronouncing Lena, but I love Magdalena and Helena. I kind of prefer Heh-len-uh to Heh-layn-uh though.
