I love the name Linnea. But my husband feels like it is very racial/ethnic identifying, if that makes sense. I don't agree with his evaluation of the name. Not knowing any other than the first name, where would you guess a girl named Linnea was from? No fair googling it :)

It's not Greek sounding at all to me, but that's the first place that pops into my head, I have no idea why. Probably because I'm saying it like Lydia with an N instead of a D

I think it sounds Hawaiian maybe. I dont see why it would matter though if the name sounds ethnic, I think it sounds pretty.

Irish?

I knew an Irish girl in middle school who had that name, pronounced linn-ay-uh.

My first thought is the girl in Monet's garden. I don't ascribe it to any ethnicity, though. I really like Linnea.

I went to school with an African-American girl named Linnea, so that's the association I have.

Well I know that it's Scandinavian; but then Scandivian names are popular in various countries.
In the abstract it just seems an unsual name and has sounds which cover various ethnicities in the grand scheme of things.
I wouldn't worry too much.

I don't know, but it's so funny you should post this! I was in court the other day, and came across a girl named Lynne. It was pronounced the way I imagine Linnea is (almost like Renee).

It gets better, though. Lynne was her middle name. Her first name was Bobby.

*rolls eyes*

Sweden. Reminds me of the dude who created binomial nomenclature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolus_Linnaeus)

The only Linnea I ever knew was a middle-aged white woman from Wisconsin. So, that's the only racial thing I associate it with. :-)

It's a Scandinavian name. My friend is named Linnea, and she's half Swedish.

The only Linnea I have ever known was white with red hair and green eyes.

It sounds Swedish to me. That's funny that some people picture a black person. Maybe it's popular among African Americans in a certain section of the country?

A girl on my softball team and track team was named Linnea. She was a very small blonde girl.

oh and since we live in Minnesota, she more than likely has some Scandinavian blood.

Scandinavia, but if I heard it I wouldn't automatically assume the person was Scandinavian, it's becoming quite popular in English-speaking places.

My good friend in high school was Linnea. Blonde, blue eyes, very very short. I don't remember specifically where her grandparents came over to the states from, but it was definatly Europe.

Northern Europe. I can't say I'm a fan, though. I know a girl named Lynnea and she's ridiculously annoying.

I pictured a really fair girl with curly red hair, so...from a country where there's white people? I have no idea what it actually is.

I would guess Minnesota. Then again, I knew a girl named Linnae (yes, spelled like that) who was from Minnesota. :)

Scandinavia. I've know girls from Oregon to Boston with this name. I don't really think it is "racial/ethnic identifying" here in America.

i like it too and i don't think it sounds ethnic/racial at all..unless i completely live under a rock. i've always imagined a linnea being a blonde-haired, blue or green-eyed person.

I've known two Linnea's, and both of them were black... therefore that's generally where I associate it.

I don't associate it with an ethnicity. I know a baby of that name and the parents are non-descript caucasians.

I live in Finland and it sounds like a really Finnish name to me :>) I think it also is/was a popular name in Sweden but not so much in the rest of Scandinavian countries. Thank you for reminding me about it, it's such a lovely name!
