[identity profile] wowthatisminty.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So it dawned on me that a loooong time ago (nearly a year, wow!) I posted about a new baby kitten desperately in need of a name.

Just wanted to add that she is being called Scout. And despite being nearly adult, she is still ridiculously small. And likes to attack feet.

I need help with my novel again!

The character of the soul-mate in "If Anybody Needs Me, I'll Be Hyperventilating" is currently called "Dylan," but I'm currently thinking of changing it. Something about it is not quite working, and should this ever get published I don't want my friend Dylan thinking the character is based on him. It isn't, it's not based on anyone actually but as the story develops, my image of the character (and parts of his history) ends up being quite similar to those of someone I know with a similar name (Devin, if you must know.)

I need a name for a character with a Dylan-y/Devin-y feel to it. In the book which takes place in 2003-2004, the character is eighteen which gives him a birthday in fall/winter of '85/'86.

Names he can't have because they are already being used in the book:

James
Henry
Ethan
Jonathan
Carlos
Robert
Eric
Gilbert
Scott
Colin
Dennis
Joaquin
Nicolas
Michael
Daniel
Steven
Anthony
Oscar
Peter
Sean
Alexander
Corey
Matthew
Joseph
Damon
Clarence
David
Wakefield
Marcus
Paul
Tomas
Angelito
William
Zarif
Nathan

Names he can't have because they are people I have had awkward crushes on:
Arian
Ryan
Andrew
Devin

Names he can't have because I am using them in other projects:
Phillip
Augustin
Winston
Jack
Solomon
Levi
Luke

Blake is the first name to pop in to my mind.

How about Brandon? (Though maybe too 90210-ish) or Dominic?

And a site that might help you (I find it wonderful) is Social Security Online's Popular Baby names (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/), you can bring up the most popular name for any year since 1880, up to 1000 of them.

I saw a name today of a local artist in my community. His name is Devlin. Not my cup of tea, but interesting nonetheless.

I personally like Destin, but not sure if I prefer it for a boy or a girl. Good luck with the novel! I'm writing, too.
