Keep meaning to share this one: Virgina Fishburne C____y.
My best friend in high school was Virginia (Gigi) Fishburne C____y. Her mom was a huge fan of Laurence Fishburne and used it for a middle name. You can imagine Gigi didn't share her MN with many people.

Also, I'd like to use a more professional and feminine name for my name (Casey). But as Casey is my given name, I'm not sure what it'd be a nickname for. I've always thought it "only" came from Cassandra (as there was a girl in 4th grade who beat me up for "stealing" her name, and she was Casey, short for Cassandra).

Anyway, any suggestions on a more formal (and preferably feminine) name that Casey could be a NN for?

Also, what are your favorite names starting with the letters "F", "Z" and "K"? (Trying to come up with names I'm not usually drawn to for some character naming)

Thanks all.

I think when one says they don't mean to sound rude, there's no need to comment on how they sounded rude. It's not like she was like you're retarded for using Casey as a nn for Christopher she just said she was curious how you get Casey from Christopher.

But that's just a side note. I agree with you-it's going to be very hard to find a name that it actually "makes sense" for Casey to be a nn for.

But she knew she was coming off as rude or she wouldn't have apologized in advance. Personally, sometimes I just don't know how to word something but I really want to say it the best I can so I start off by saying "I don't mean to offend" or something of the like. I know it's going to come off the wrong way and that's why I let them know I don't mean it how it comes off. I'm bad at wording things though. Momma didn't teach me right :)

I actually had never even heard of Casey for Cassandra. Cassandra has always translated to Cassie for me. Casey is just Casey.

... *still doesn't get how asking where a nn comes from is rude* o.O

Maybe she just wanted to know the logic so she could use it? I'm interested in people's thought process behind nns and love unique ones. I'm sorry, but that seems really oversensitive to me.

I, personally, found it to be a really odd reaction because I've seen that exact same question asked very similarly many times in this comm. But if you're allowed to say you found it rude, we're allowed to say that we don't understand why, no?

I'm not upset, and [livejournal.com profile] giveitafullheart doesn't seem to be, either. I actually just felt kind of bad for the OP because it seemed to me like you were being unnecessarily combative, and wanted to let her know that I didn't think she was out of line.

I don't think you were being rude at all I think someone was taking your question a little too personally. I can't see why it would be associated with those names either.
I've known a few girls named Casey and it wasn't short for anything, it was just Casey. nicknames were Cass, Case, and Ace.

btw, according to http://www.babyhold.com/list/French_Baby_Names/Casey/details/

The name Casey is a baby girl name. The name Casey comes from the French origin. In French The meaning of the name Casey is: Diminutive of Catherine: Pure, clear. Form of the Latin Katharina, from the Greek Aikaterina.

Not sure how accurate that is but hey, they are options I suppose!

These might sound like I made them up, but I got them from a site.

Casita
Cassariah
Cassia

This one I *think* I'm making up.
Castella.
The site had the name Castaspella, but I think what I changed it to is way better.
