What I like...
Apr. 3rd, 2006 11:44 amI have to admit I have been lurking and commenting here for a while now, but I haven't posted yet!
So, even though I am very much single and nowhere near having children yet (although I'd like to be) I thought I'd post what I want to name my childen, when they eventually make their way into the world.
[first daughter] Imogen Frances - Imogen is a name I have liked for a long time, and isn't too common, yet not too 'strange' either. Immy as a nickname. Frances is a family traditional middle name - the older girl for the last 5 generations of my mums family has it as her middle name (Cyndi Frances [me], Cleo (Elisabeth) Frances [Mum], Yvonne Frances [Nana], Mary Frances [Great Nana], and Mary's mum was also a Frances), and even though I don't love the name, I'll carry it on...
[first son] Mark Ezra - I want to name my first son after my Dad, Mark. I like it, a nice strong masculine name, meaning 'warlike'. Marky and Ez will be nicknames, Marky more predomanantly. I also have a close friend called Mark. Ezra is a biblical name that I really like.
[subsequent son] Zachary Makon - I need a Zac. lol. And if I end up having like, 3 girls, and then a boy, it's likely I'll call my first son Zachary-Mark Ezra, so that I can get the name Zachary in there. Other boys names I like include Riley and Makon (kinda pronounced [makin']), so these would be contenders for a middle name.
[subsequent daughter] - I have quite a few girls names I like. Paige and Caydence would be high on the list. So yeah. Paige Caydence.
Imogen Frances
Paige Caydence
Mark Ezra
Zachary Makon
Zachary Riley - just realised why it sounds weird - the two -y sounds don't sound at all good together!
Zachary-Mark Ezra
What do you think? Any suggestions on middle names that would go nicely with Mark or Zachary?

Date: 2006-04-02 07:13 pm (UTC)Paige Caydence - OK... but extremly trendy
Mark Ezra - I like it
Zachary Makon - I've never even seen that middle name before... not my style again
Zachary Riley - This combo is terrible... the names sounds way too similar
Zachary-Mark Ezra - I like the '-' idea as a middle name usually, but Zachary is such a long name already that I don't think it's necessary to tack something else on...
All and all, I adore Zachary, it's one of my favorite boys names and will be the middle name of my first boy (for family heritage reasons also, my mom's maiden name is "Zacharias"). I'm not so much a fan of your girls names, although I love Kadence (spelt that way, though.).
How about Zachary Mark? Then you get your dad's name in there, as well as your favorite name? Hm?

Date: 2006-04-02 07:20 pm (UTC)I agree that Zachary Riley doesn't go too well together - because of the -y sounds on the end of both names. Also because I think with a longer first name like Zachary I like a one-syllable middle name.
But yes, you have good taste. Zachary Mark is what I think I really want.
Oh, and Makon is the name of the lead male character in the movie "How To Deal", but I think they spell it Macon... but that reminds me too much of bacon, lol!

Date: 2006-04-02 07:41 pm (UTC)Cadence is one of my favorite names, so I approve. I don't love the "y", but that's your decision, not mine!

Date: 2006-04-02 11:46 pm (UTC)Paige Caydence - I don't like how both names have a long AY sound. I prefer the spelling Cadence. Neither name does much for me -- very different in style than Imogen Frances...
Mark Ezra - Nice
Zachary Makon - I dislike the "ack" sound a lot, especially with that second harsh KUH in the mn. Just don't care for this, sorry.
Zachary Riley - I actually think this sounds better than the Paige or other Zachary combo.
Zachary-Mark Ezra - Fine

Date: 2006-04-03 08:05 am (UTC)I don't like Imogen, but i do like the reasons you like it! Frances doesnt do anything for me either, but one of my best friends is a Frances (aka Fraz) & it's a family name for her too... there are a million Frances/Francis' on her mums side & she says enough is enough, she's boycotting the tradtition!
I like Ezra a lot, but i wouldnt use it because i'm using Esme for another daughter (if i have one) & Ezra & Esme are too similar.

Date: 2006-04-03 11:22 am (UTC)Mark is nice, I like your reasoning behind it. i don't see how Marky AND Ez can be nicknames though. Why would his nn be based on his middle name? And how many people really have two COMPLETELY different nn's? Like one day you'll be like "hey, Marky, come here!" and the next "Ez, get your butt over here!" or what?
I love Zachary.
Paige is cute and I guess Caydence is okay as a MIDDLE name but I hate it as a first name.

Date: 2006-04-03 06:30 pm (UTC)Also, a lot of people have nicknames that aren't even based on their name. My friend Mark answers to "Mark", "Marky", "Sparky" and "Juggs"...
