One of my residents told me today that she has a brand new great granddaughter Elizabella. I think I managed not to grimmace in front of her.

Another resident has a great granddaughter Dylaan.....even SHE (the resident) made a face as she was telling me that.

I think Elizabella is kind of pretty. I'm not usually a fan of a -bella names or made-up ones either.

Dylan on a girl is bad enough, but why double A's?

Dylaan

Like Dyl-ahn in its pronunciation? Hope not. It's only a matter of time until we see a Dylanne.

I recently met a woman who named her daughter Dylan, pronounced exactly as you're saying here: Dyl-ahn. Dy (like the Di in Dill) and an, like ahn, awn. She said her daughter is always having to correct people because they of course say it like the boys name Dylan/Dillon. Made me feel better about the name I made up for my son, because at least his nick name is clearly boyish and not that hard to pronounce.
