WDYT? (various nicknames & etc)
Sep. 17th, 2008 04:52 pmThis popped into my head yesterday: Etta as a nn for Juliet. Comments?
Also, favorite middle names for Genevieve, and WDYT of the nn Evey?
Also, thanks for the suggestions onnicknames full names (I think gud, sorry guys) for Rosie. I really think I've exhausted everything that starts with "Ros-," and the only one of those I really like is Rosetta. If anyone has suggestions of names that you could get Rosie out of but that do not start with "Ros" (like Ambrosia, except not that one cos I'm not a fan), I'm definitely still looking! Thanks!

Date: 2008-09-17 09:12 pm (UTC)My fiancé and I are considering using Genevieve, middle name Louise, but that's only because Louise is a family name. Before that, a few that I played around with were:
Genevieve Helen
Genevieve Lucia
Genevieve Nora
Genevieve Oralie
Genevieve Twyla
I love Evey as a nickname for Genevieve, and intend to use Evie, myself.

Date: 2008-09-17 09:53 pm (UTC)I'm the same way with nicknames. I used to be somewhat determined to find a nickname for every one of the names on my list, both guys and girls. I've more or less given up on that, but it's fun to make up ones people wouldn't immediately guess.

Date: 2008-09-17 09:58 pm (UTC)YES. I am strangely proud of myself when I think of a new one.
And yes, as in Hammond! (Alexander nn Lex is also very, very high on my list for boys; I'll have to hope that the person I have kids with likes superheroes as much as I do.) I like to sneak references like that in my names while still keeping them (I hope) classy. I hate it when people name kids after fandom-related things when they're not legit, nice names on their own. There's fangir/boy-ing, and then there's just taking things too far.

Date: 2008-09-17 09:22 pm (UTC)Etta for Juliet could work, I wouldn't have thought of it, as they belong to different eras to me.

Date: 2008-09-17 09:46 pm (UTC)I really like Etta, but while I don't mind Henrietta or Harriet, I don't like them enough to use. So I was really pleased with myself when I came up with this.

Date: 2008-09-17 10:29 pm (UTC)I love Evie for a nn and think using is with the full name Genevieve is also good. Not sure about mn suggestions, I would just give you what I like, I think it's best you think of good combos.
And I think you're being very fussy when it comes to fn for nn rosie, not that I'm being snarky. I know how it is. I found a few more possible suggestions, other than that, I do believe you will have heard all the possibilities and may have to rethink some you previously rejected, or the only other suggestion I have is to just use Rosie as a first name, or use it as a middle name, and just use it all the time. =/
Delarose/Delarosa
Melrose
Delores - I know, not exactly what you're looking for, but thought what the heck
Ambrosine/Ambrosina -Greek, meaning the divine immortal one,
Rosenwyn - Cornish, means fair rose
Vairosie - I made it up out of desperation lol

Date: 2008-09-17 10:34 pm (UTC)FTR, I'd think Ambrosia was awesome if it didn't sound like a stripper name and if it weren't for the food.
(It doesn't actually have to have "ros" in it at all; I was just trying to give people some ideas. I like Izzy for Iris, so I don't mind stretching.) I think Delores is one of the most creative I've seen, thanks.

Date: 2008-09-18 03:21 am (UTC)I got another suggestion for ya for the Rosie thing. There's certain nick names I like to, that don't come easily out of a first name, so I do a combo of either part of a first name with part of a middle name, or I also use initials. Kind of like naming a boy Justin Connor, and using his initials J.C. to make a cute nickname that can also sound like just a first name. Or, naming a girl Katherine Christine, and using her initials K.C. for a "Casey" nn.
With that in mind, I came up with Rochelle for a first name, (*besides Rochelle, you have Roma, or Rowena haha) and a middle name that starts with Z. Using the Ro from Rochelle, paired with the Zee sound, either just using the Z alone, or, personally, I'd go with a middle name that has a Zee sound with the letter Z. Such as:
Rochelle Zia ("Zee-uh")
Rochelle Zillah(Zee-lah")
Rochelle Zita ("Zee-ta")
Rochelle Ziva ("Zee-va")
Or if you don't like any of those Z names, you could go with one you like, and still just use the Z. It wouldn't be spelled Rosie, but using the Ro from Rochelle and Z from the middle names, you would still get the Rosie sound, and thus you would be able to have Rosie (Ro.Z.) as a nickname.
WDYT?

Date: 2008-09-18 01:02 am (UTC)As Genevieve, I prefer Evie on the spelling but I bet it's good.
And I didn't see the Rosie *post you made, but I have some family members with the first name Rosebrough (it was a long-running family name)... Although it's kind of weird.
