[identity profile] pythianlegume7.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Okay guys! So this time we had a much fewer voter turnout than the last two times, I'm not sure why that was. Here are baby_names most popular names at the moment:

Boys
9 votes: Benjamin
7: Gabriel, Nathaniel
6: Jude, William
5: Samuel
4: Elliott, James, Julian, Landon, Lucas, Nicholas, Oliver, Theodore
3: Aaron, August, Colin, Edward, Elliot, Henry, Isaac, Rhys
2: Adam, Adrian, Aidan, Alexander, Archer, Brodie, Cameron, Cole, Elijah, Ezra, Finn, Finnegan, Jack, Jonah, Luca, Matthew, Miles, Nathan, Nico, Nikolai, Peter, River, Sage, Sam, Sebastian, Simon, Tristan, Vincent, Zachary

Girls:
6 votes: Harper
5: Catherine, Charlotte, Juliet
4: Audrey, Elizabeth, Fiona, Lucy
3: Amelia, Claire, Eleanor, Jane, Lucia, Madeline, Maeve, Ruby
2: Abigail, Astrid, Alexandra, Chloe, Delilah, Emily, Emma, Francesca, Haven, Helen, Ivy, Jocelyn, Juliana, Kalina, Kate, Katherine, Kayleigh, Layla, Leah, Lillian, Margaret, Marilyn, Naomi, Susanna

Wow I'm really suprised that Harper is the top girls' name...

I'm going to list the top names for the last two times we did this (October 2007, March 2008)

October 2007:
boys: Alexander (8), Oliver (8), James (7), William (7), Asher (6), Edward (6)
girls: Elizabeth (9), Audrey (5), Eleanor (5), Amelia (4), Caroline (4), Charlotte (4), Claire (4), Grace (4), Juliet (4), Margaret (4)

March 2008
boys: Elliot (9), Oliver (8), Alexander (6), James (6), Finn (5), Jack (5), William (5)
girls: Charlotte (9), Amelia (5), Catherine (5), Abigail (4), Anna (4), Elizabeth (4), Isabel (4), Julia (4), June (4), Lydia (4), Violet (4)

Here are the history for some of the names that have been most popular. If you want to know a particular name, just ask, I've got them all saved! I've done it like this:
October 2007 number of votes --> March 2008 votes --> September 2008 votes

Harper: 0 --> 3 --> 6
Catherine: 3 --> 5 --> 5
Charlotte: 4 --> 9 --> 5
Juliet: 4 --> 1 --> 5
Audrey: 5 --> 2 --> 4
Elizabeth: 9 --> 4 --> 4
Fiona: 1 --> 2 --> 4
Lucy: 3 --> 1 --> 4
Eleanor: 5 --> 2 --> 3
Amelia: 4 --> 5 --> 3
Caroline: 4 --> 1 --> 0
Claire: 4 --> 0 --> 3
Margaret: 4 --> 1 --> 2

Benjamin: 3 --> 3 --> 9
Gabriel: 5 --> 2 --> 7
Nathaniel: 1 --> 4 --> 7
Jude: 3 --> 3 --> 6
William: 7 --> 5 --> 6
Elliot: 4 --> 9 --> 3
Elliott: 0 --> 3 --> 4
Alexander: 8 --> 6 --> 2
Oliver: 8 --> 8 --> 4
James: 7 --> 6 --> 4

I hope people read this because I spent a lot of time working on it! If you want any of the individual spreadsheets, just post and I'd be happy to send them your way. I plan on continuing to make these posts when I'm bored. This one was really very skewed because for some reason not very many people replied, I think that some of the names that had only 4 or 5 votes probably would have gotten more if this had stayed on the front page for longer.

Harper surprises me too. That never would've been my guess. I think that my tastes are represented a lot more in the boys than in the girls. And it seems that the tastes of the community are changing a bit too. This is pretty interesting, thanks for doing it up!

I love stuff like this!

I find it very interesting how Harper kinda came out of nowhere like some trendy names.

Just out of curiosity what did you do about spelling variations?

Very interesting. It would be more accurate if we knew the percentages of each time a name was listed in each batch, and then compare them, because obviously a different number of people respond each time.
However, that's just more hard work for you, so I understand if you wouldn't ever bother doing that.

Could you tell me the changes in popularity of Alyssa, Francesca, Naomi, Adam, Matthew, Samuel and Theodore, if that's not too much trouble.

Thanks for doing this! =)

There are a lot of names on there that I like, but few that I love (which is good, I think! I don't care if my names are getting more popular, but I don't want them to get super popular).

Nathaniel is actually the only one...It's my second favorite boy's name. And Maeve is my favorite girl's name...but I suppose only 3 votes from this community isn't all that bad! ;)

I suppose it's safe to say that a lot of people here like 'classic' names.

I think another thing that should be taken into account is like... some people are consistent posters without children and some really only participate in the community when they're expecting, so... It's not like it's the same people over and over, which I think is interesting, seeing the ebb and flow of popularity as people come and go.

I'm glad I saw this, I was having trouble choosing between Harper or Temple for my next girl's name. Now that I see Harper heading for popularity I think I will go with Temple.
