A girl I went to HS with is naming her second child, a girl, Roxy. She also has a three year old son named Trent.

Roxy.

I hate it. The first thing I thought of was One Life to Live. It has a Roxy charactor who is a drunk loser. Or, a stripper.

I don't think Roxy is THAT bad...but I'd never use it.

My first thought was of Chicago.

I wouldn't use it either, but I do think it would be cute as a nickname ... providing that I actually liked any of the names that it might be derived from.

Can think of worse.

Makes me think of "Chicago". And Roxie Hart. And then, I start singing the song with her name in it.

i'd use it for a pet before I'd use it for a child.

As I do not watch soap operas, the reference is lost on me. I've always quite liked Roxy and Roxanne. Back in my early teens (classic bad taste years), I dreamed of twin girls name Roxanne and Rhubarb, nicknamed Roxy and Ruby.

That dream has LONG fizzled, but I still quite like both Roxanne and Roxy as a diminutive.

Roxy is a pet's name to me. Like a dog or cat. Or ferret.

Lol my mom almost named me Roxanne after the Police song. Something about it has always just sounded a little trashy to me.

I like the name Roxy, as long as it's a nn for Roxanne (which I love). I knew a Roxy and she was really awesome.

Trent is so ugly.
Roxanne/Roxanna would be much better,but I don't mind Roxy as a nn.

Roxy makes me think of the song Roxanne (especially the Moulin Rouge cover).
It's not bad, just really punk.

I like Trent!

Roxie was my number one girls name for a really long time, actually. So obviously, I don't have the same problems with it that you do. I think it's nice.

I kind of like Roxy...I think it's cute. I'd never ever use it though...I think it's a little stripper-ish.

I knew a woman named Roxy. She was really nice! Not a "stripper" type at all.

But to me Roxy is a nickname for Roxanne. It shouldn't be on the birth certificate. That's like having a boy and putting his first name as Bobby on the birth certificate (that actually happened to my former band director).
