Customer names

A family came in to the place I wait tables and their four kids were called:

Lorien (m)
Rohan (f)
Angelus (m)
Pheobe (f)

They seemed rather put out that I didn't get the releant fantasy references (when I did in fact get one of them, but I was never a LOTR fan and I didn't feel comfortable saying 'oh, what, like in Buffy?' to a group of people I don't know...)

WDYT?

Uhhhhhhhhhh..

Rohan and Lorien are, in my opinion, worse than Sirius EVER could be. Wtf.

I just don't get naming your children after characters. I mean. I just.. don't get it. Sirius was actually a name before Harry Potter at least!

I do like the name Phoebe.

Rohan is an Indian name meaning "ascending." So that one was around before Lord of the Rings, too.

Ah. I didn't know that.

I'm still pretty sure these people used in only because of the LOTR connotation. =/ Which is sad. It's a pretty name, and obviously a legitimate one.. but uh..

I don't know, I'm not one for using names that are seriously ethnic if your family obviously isn't..

Its on our list, my husband is Indian. I don't really relate it to LOTR.

Rohan and Lorien are not characters, they're places ;)

Angelus? lol.

Aside from being derived too much from pop culture, I actually think those are pretty names. Even Angelus is OK. I especially like Lorien as a name. It is still a little silly coming just from Lord of the Rings. I think I would switch the first two so Lorien was the girl's name and Rohan the boy's.

Lorien for a boy? Wow. That's so feminine (to me, at least).

OK, I get the first two. three, if they really did name their kid after the prayer. lost on the last one. (and probalby the second-to-last, since I can't see oh, we named our first two after places in LOTR... lets name this one after that prayer!)
