I swore I wasn't going to come here begging for name suggestions, because I'm sure I've done so at least a few times already, but here goes. we're two months out on a baby of unknown gender. we have a girl name picked out. we have nothing even remotely close to being picked out for a boy name. siblings are Germaine (girl), Linus and Dietrich (boys). I won't say what the girl name we picked is, but here's some examples of boy names we've liked but dumped for various reasons:
Seamus (too irish. we're each only 25% but have an irish last name, so irish first names are out.)
Anselm (I find it awkward to pronounce. I'm not asking for pronounciations, I know HOW to, I just find it awkward. I don't think I could do that to a kid.)

I'm sensing a somewhat European trend, so here's some first names from my dad's side of the family (they're German):

Henrich (sp? Goes by Henry)

I used such a german name last time around that we're trying to avoid that this time around, so it's doesn't end up a trend. so far I've got names from 3 different european countries, so we're going to try to keep with the variaty, ethnically speaking.

I like the above Pascal/Otto/Raphael/Casper suggestions (although I'd probably lean to Gaspar instead of Casper, and both over Jasper).


Was Ovid out completely? What about Conrad? And would Ansel be an improvement over Anselm?

I don't know if Ovid was ever truly in the running. it's really only got one association, and I don't know enough about the author to name my kid after him.

I've thought about Ansel as a less-awkwardly-pronounced alternative to Anselm, but again with the associations.. Anselm is a Catholic Saint (which I tend to go for) where as Ansel is an artist, and we're not that artsy of people, so it doesn't sit well with me.

Anselm is too hard to pronounce, but what about Ansel? Axel?

What names were on your list last time that you almost chose?

yes, 7 months pregnant. I don't know if the phrase I used is really accurate (or if it really does mean two months along) but it sounded good at the time I was typing :P

I have such difficult time with boy names, and having had two boys in a row, I really have no names I "almost" chose because once I picked a name, I ended up having a boy to use it on! everything else got canned for some reason or another.
