calling all Jennifers...
Aug. 27th, 2008 12:24 pmI'm posting this for a friend- who's doing a speech for school on her name -Jennifer.
Just wondering how many people here are named Jennifer (or Jenifer/Jennipher/Jenniffer/Gennifer...whatever), or have a child named Jennifer.
If you were named jennifer, why were you named that?
If you named your child Jennifer, why did you choose that name?
Have you ever had another Jennifer in your class at school? If yes, how many?
How do you feel about being named /having named your child Jennifer?
If you are called something other than Jennifer what is it?
thanks so much in advance, I'm so curious to see the answers.

Have you ever had another Jennifer in your class at school? If yes, how many? Anywhere from 1-3 others, thus my last initial became attached to my name.
How do you feel about being named /having named your child Jennifer? I absolutely abhorred it as a child, but I've come to terms with it now, I just would have liked something a little more unheard of.
If you are called something other than Jennifer what is it? I introduce myself as Jena now, but when I was in grade 7 I went by everything from Jen to Jenn to Jennifer...to any other things I could think of that would make me more 'unique' or so I thought. I dropped the second 'n' in Jena, because I knew a Jenna and absolutely hated her, but really wanted to be called Jena.

In elementary there were 6 of us out of ~60 kids total in my grade. So approximately 1 of every 5 girls were named Jennifer.
How do you feel about being named /having named your child Jennifer?
I would have preferred having a name of my own. My friends mostly had pretty unique names and never seemed worse off for it. I, on the other hand, had to leave my last name in phone messages for my best friend.

I go by Jen and Jo. J.O. are my initials. It came from elementary when there were six of us and we eventually became Jenny, Jen, Jenna, Jennifer, Jem, and Jo.

How do you feel about being named /having named your child Jennifer? It bothered me a bit in my preteen years, but not enough to want to do anything about it. It did make me want to make sure my kids have names that are less common (but not 'weird'- I named my son Holden for example).
If you are called something other than Jennifer what is it? Most friends and family call me Jen or Jenny. My mom and sisters and my best friend call me Ginger or Nej (rhymes with edge. I have a weird family).

Date: 2008-08-27 07:36 pm (UTC)Nej (and Nejjy or Nedgy) came about because when my little nephew tried to say Jenny when he learned to talk, he mixed up the N and J sounds and that just stuck, too. He calls me Aunt Jenny now that he's 9, but everyone else still calls me Nej, haha.

My classrooms growing up were full of Jennifers. It was a terrible feeling. To make matters worse, it is also very similar to Jessica and people can't seem to differentiate between the two. I hate being called Jessica even more than I dislike my name.
