[identity profile] jyl-mac.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I completely adore Autumn (Fall...the season) and Halloween (in a non-creepy way, hehe) and I'm looking for names to add to my wish list that have strong associations to either. I love the name Autumn but I'm a fan of more unique names (but not so out-there that it's silly).

I know there was a post a whiiiile back that I can't seem to find who wanted spooky Halloween-ish names so if you can point me back to it that would be cool.

Can anyone think of actual usable, practical names that are associate with Autumn and/or Halloween? Boys and Girls names wanted. Thanks, lovelies!

Maple (a tree that turns bright red in the fall, girl in a Robert Frost poem)
Crimson
Scarlet
Sienna (all colors of the season!)

Catherine (might not seem very Halloweeny, but it is a form of Hecate --> goddess of the underworld, name of a witch in Macbeth).

Sybil or Sybilla (or Sibyl or Sibylla) --> means witch or prophet

Alcina: a witch in Ludovico Ariosto's poem 'Orlando Furioso' (1516)

Persephone: In Greek myth she was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was abducted to the underworld by Hades, but was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year. The result of her comings and goings is the changing of the seasons.

Giles: the only man accused of witchcraft (Giles Correy) in the Salem Witch Trials; a character in Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

Jack (O'Lantern, haha)

Bram: Stoker, wrote Dracula

Trixie (a play on Trick or Treat!)

Hallie (short for Halloween)

Merlin: magician

Caspar: the Friendly Ghost

Cardigan: sweater. Because it gets cold!

Some others: Frost, October, September,

My sister really likes the name Pomegranate, a fruit that is associated with Fall. Pommy, she says, for nickname.

That's all I can think of for now!

My first thought was Anonna (or Anona, as I'd prefer it), the Roman goddess of the harvest.

Well, you can go back and read what I wrote in the other one, a la witches sinch twitchywoman got you the link.

For more fall-themed names, you could do birthstones, i.e. my birthday is Oct. 4th and my birthstone is Opal. Might not want to name a child after their own birthstone, but either way, some of them are cute names.

There's also Diana, goddess of the hunt. And Artemis, her Greek counterpart.

Saffron: color

Titania: queen of the fairy-folk

and Puck, from the old English for "devil."

Theresa apparently means "to harvest" so you have that and Tessa and Tess.
