All my pets have distinguished people-names. But they have silly nicknames. My bird's name is Archimedes, my cats are Edgar and Kashmir, and my snake is Longfellow.
My dog's name is Jam - as she took to toe-licking when she was only 4 weeks old. My sister's dog's name is Zeke (I look after him so he's "my dog" as well) I was going to get a bird and call it Binary...
My favourite kind are uncommon 'people names' that have meanings relating the animals' character/apperance. Never really keep a list because I think you need to meet them to know what will suit.
My rabbits ... Branwen Felicity = Branwen means 'fair raven' (as in dark beauty), Felicity is for her original name Lucky. I liked the sentiment but she needed something a bit more dignified. & Casey Jack = Has a roguish 'cowboy' feel to it which suits him. Casey means 'fearless' and he is really. Jack as in 'jumping Jack flash'.
Few years ago I had goldfish named Beaufort, Coral and Caspian. Still think those are pretty cool. Named them after seas because fish live in the sea.
In future I'd love to adopt a dog and name them Tenessee, just think it's such an awesome name [because of the Sugarland song, and Tenessee Williams] but not sure a child would appreciate it.
I don't like using people names for pets- they die & then you get sad when the name is mentioned :-( I know a lot of people who have dogs called Max & cats called Sophy. Thats mine & my brothers name. My kitty is called Fizz & i've had another cat called Abbie (who was actually male) & a hampster called snowy.
Oh & my grandparents had a dog called Jess, who wasnt allowed in the house much- my granny would get confused between Jess & my dads name Jez. She'd be shouting 'Jess, down boy.. or jess... get out' It was a little strange..
Bitey was named by my 3 year old daughter, who heard the word on a TV ad and couldn't stop giggling at it. When we asked her if she had a name for the new dog, she just yelled "Bitey!" and it stuck. My husband came up with Bert after watching Sesame Street with our daughter. I think it's quite cute xD.
My cats are named Willow "Willie"(named after a street sign), Lillias "Lilli" and Fiona "Chubs or Chubs McGee". I also have a Lab named Lucy but I sometimes call her Lucille.
I've always wanted to name a dog Mordecai. I just think it's such a cool sounding name. I'd never use it on a child though. I also think it would be kinda cool to have a dog or a cat named Gracie or Grace so then I'd have a Will and a Grace ;-) Lame I know.
we adopted a 1 year old cat named sir charles "charlie" and after that decided to keep the 'theme' going... we then got a kitten named sir theodore "teddie", a couple years later a girl kitten named lady ebony "ebony" and lastly a kitten named sir windsor "winnie".
i never had alot of animals (allergic to cats) and my mom was terrified of dogs...although I did have a dog a few years ago-his name was Crawford-he was named after some very close friends of my family (thier last name) and I recently had a rabbit named Jack Daniel-sadly i was allergic to him as well so he's with a new family now who calls him Peter. Blah.
ohh i do remember having fish when i was really little (like 5 or 6)...they were named ET and Elliot..and everytime they would die and my parents would get me new ones, I'd name them the same thing...
fish: Rupert, Bob hamsters: Bitsy, Mr. Pickles cats (past and present): Petunia (Tuny), Peepers, Pumpkin, Widget, Pitty Pat, Tigger, Squeaky, Miss Chickapea (Chicky).
I don't really know about favorite names, but I'm not a fan of "normal" pet names, like Fluffy, Midnight, Lucky or Smokey. Of course, the cats I grew up with were named Spot and Dusty, and I still think those names fit them, but that's probably because they had been given those names when I was 3. I chose much more unique names for my animals. My pets are all named "moon" or "moonlight" in different languages. Or at least, what different websites said were words for moon (sorry if I got one or two wrong). Current pets: Maza (my dog, "moon" in Circassian) Amar (tuxedo cat, "moon" in Arabic) Taki (tabby cat, "moon" in Inuit) Hina (tortoiseshell, "moon" in Polynesian (I think! I need to find were I found that)) Chandran (Maine Coon, "moonlight in Hindi") Ayla (fluffy grey kitty, "moonlight" in Turkish")
Deceased: Tsuki (tuxedo cat, "moon" in Japanese) Yue or Yueliang (torbie, "moon" in Chinese) Mwezi (orange tabby, "moon" in Swahili)
Current pets: Gator -my 11 y/o chihuahua/jack russell mix, i named him this when i was in the 5th grade. my dad had brought home this other dog we had named lucky & long story short she didn't work out and my dad said no more dogs, so when we got the new puppy i named him Gator because my dad could never throw a Gator out of the house (his fave football team EVER!). Charlie -the super mutt. imagine a german shepard/rottie/sharpei(just the ears and spots on his tongue) and miniturize them (he only ways 40lbs) Cap - my mom's course, so named by previous owners because he's a medicine hat paint.
past pets: Sheik - hamster named after a baby giraffe on a zoo animal video i used to loove Trixie - hamster named after a cartoon mouse Rodney - named after Rodney Dangerfeild. my favorite movie at this time (about 15 years ago) was Rover Dangerfeild, my parents vetoed Rover. Scooter - Appaloosa gelding we pretty much owned. Chloe - soft brown gerbile Luna - grey gerbil, chloe's sister
and i want to name my future chihuahua when i move into my own place Gizmo.
I have a dog his name is Buddy my icon has a picture of him as a puppy on the second day I brought him home. I love the name Buddy for a dog because he is is my buddy for all and everything.
right now my 3 dogs are Lita, Harper and Dixie (i only got to name Lita-- but her nn is Lee-Lee) We had cats Riddick and Ash/Isis and Kiara I named my friends dog Jackson and my friend had 2 cats Chloe and Sophie
I am such a huge fan of NOT naming pets people names, or anything really common (like Buddy or Max) my pets are: 3 male cats - Newton, DC, Spaz (we actually call him Kitten though, which is lame) 1 Gerbil - Cap'n One Eye (yes, he really only has one eye) 4 Hedgehogs - Mrs. Dash (she's a salt & Pepper variety), Spiky Monkey, Bean (she's a pinto variety), and Albi Paste (He's an albino) The fish don't have names 2 snakes - Cornelius (he's a charcoal) and Scarlet (She's a blood red)
I really need to find names for the fish though (I have three bettas). I hadn't named them since my husband killed like 2 in a month so I was waiting to make sure these were going to make it, and it looks like they will.

I've used it for a story character too, her siblings also have state names. Rather like doing themed sibsets in stories.

I like using god/goddess names for pets for some reason.
When I get a dog next year its name is either going to be:
if it's a girl: Rogue (x-men), Lily or Bella
it it's a boy: Finley

So I think I'd probably do something similar for another pet.
My brother, when we were really little, named his pet duck Ricky. I'm still not really sure why, I guess he just liked that name.
