[identity profile] chillinbabejodi.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

This is probably a weird post but I'm curious..

What do you think of the names teenage mothers give to their child(ren)?
Do you think it's possible to tell wether or not a baby was born to a teenager by his/her name?
What names have teenagers you know given to their children? Are they all Aiden/Hayden/Braedens & Addison/Madisons ?

I can't agree that you can tell the age of the mother/father by the name of their child. I honestly like most of the names listed in the original post and am currently 29wks pregnant and planning to name my son Aidan. And no, I'm not a teenager. I love the name. It has nothing to do with any TV shows or top name lists. It's because the meaning is "little fire ball" and given the personalities of myself and the father, I believe this will be true for our son.

It's never a good idea to generalize anything, ever. Just because a name may be considered "trendy" or has been featured on a TV show, doesn't mean that is the reason someone is choosing to use it. And just because someone is young doens't mean they're going to name their child something ridiculous, or because someone is older their child will have a great name (though that is all in your perception). For example, there's an older couple in New Zealand attempting to name their child 4Real because they just realized this baby is for real. : / Someone's age rarely reflects their intelligence, or ignorance.

Haha. I would never assume everyone in NZ inherited those terrible baby naming skills!! I'm just hoping they change their mind before the baby is actually born!

Wow. WOW. I'm not sure which is worse, but at least there isn't a number in it!

I'm seventeen - I like to think I have pretty good, non-trendy taste in names! The one teenage mother I know named her daughter Charlotte. Albeit not a misspelt, ridiculous name, it is pretty trendy in Australia when trying to sound 'upper class'.

I know more people in their 30's and up who chose awful names such as:
Cinnamon, Hunter, Bigby (big bee), Stallone. But I also know some pretty awfully named kids who were born to high schoolers so who knows.

I know a lot more older (and by older I don't really mean old, late 20's-30's) people than younger people with children, but mostly all of them named their children trendy names.

if I were to have a child right now (I'm 16), I'd probably name a girl Ivy or Jane, and a boy Asher or Peter. My brother (also 16) likes the names Henry, Abraham, and Angela/Angie. One of my friends (18) likes Emily, Landon, and London.

So...I don't think that a name is any indication of how old the parents are.

The only teen mother I went to school [who kept her child] with named her daughter Ava Abigail Alexis. None of them are really my style, but it doesn't seem like a name that would be exclusive to a teenage mom.

I don't think age really has anything to do with it. Personally, as a teen mother, I find this post offensive. Just because the name is not your style doesn't mean it's a horrible/tacky/ugly name. I'm dying to know how my age would have anything to do with my daughter's name.
