[identity profile] diamond-eyes18.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hey everyone! I just joined this community because I am having so much trouble picking out a name for my son. I seriously have NO CLUE on a first name, the only name I've continually liked throughout my pregnancy for a boy is Jack, but my (and the baby's) last name is Jackson, so that doesn't exactly work! I'm 36 weeks tommorow (due Sept 20th), so baby really really needs a name. I have a middle name picked out, he's being named after a very close friend of mine who recently passed away so that's non-negociable. Anyway, after skimming through this community it seems you ladies have some pretty good names (many that I would never have thought of, thanks to preggo-brain syndrome).

So I ask you to fill in the blank ___________David Jackson

TYI!

Edit: I lean a bit more towards traditional names given my last name, I think it needs a "strong" name to carry it. But I do like uncommon names too! As long as they don't sound to weird with Jackson...

do you like "normal" names that are more traditional? because the first name i thought of was William. after that, Thomas or matthew

William and Thomas are my top two... I want to name my first son William Thomas, but in case I have a second son, I want to save Thomas for him. So I just have to worry about middle names

Here's what I've come up with...

I left Andrew in there because (sad as it sounds) I don't think THAT many people will really make a connection. Unfortunately, I think Michael would be teased much more than Andrew.

Also, my friend's last name is Jackson. Her brother's name is Benjamin. So you can add that there too.

Oh, no, it's fine. Trust me, it takes a lot more than that to offend me.

lol I kept trying to make suggestions based off of names that I like but don't want to use since they're already in my family...but they all made me giggle because of your last name. (Andrew Jackson, Michael Jackson, Joshua Jackson)

I agree with you...your last name does limit it but Andrew David Jackson sounds soooooooooo cute and like duckduckcaboose said, not many people will make that connection anyway.

I like Nathaniel and Liam that other people have suggested. Jonathan could be shortened to Jack but would at least mean he's not saddled with Jack Jackson completely. Not entirely sure it flows right.

The first thing that came to mind was Mark, but I think it's because I just read an article about Mark David Chapman (the man that killed John Lennon), so maybe that's not the best idea I've ever had...

I love Caleb (would be on my list if one of my damn characters hadn't told me his name was Caleb; now it's off limits for me, alas) so much. I'd never use Cal as a nn for it. I wouldn't worry about people using nns for your child that you dislike; just correct them and say "We call him X," and it should be fine.

Of course, when he gets older you'll have less say, but you can set the stage while he's young. XD

It's a long a sound, so I don't understand why anyone would use the nickname "Cal" for Caleb. In fact, the only Caleb I know just goes by that, without any nicknames attached to it; it's short enough that it doesn't really need a nickname. If it were to have a nickname, I would think the natural choice would be "Cale," pronounced like the vegetable, or just "Cay."

Hmm, well, the good thing about the middle name David is that it sounds "right" with pretty much anything.
So, are you attached to any particular meanings? I would suggest going on www.babynamesworld.com and then typing in a meaning you like and searching through those. It narrows things down a lot, like you probably won't want to name your baby Cameron because it means "crooked nose":]
Anyway, congratulations on being pregnant! Keep us updated on your choices!
