WDYT.

I'm not ready to have another one already but i have been thinking of names when we have a girl.

I know it's kind of campy but i love it.

Mabel

Meaning: My Beautiful One
Orgin: English

If it makes any difference with a sibset.
The brother would be Van.

It's been growing on me! I am in love with Victorian names, and even though I would only use Mabel as a middle name, I say go for it.

Mabel and Van make a great sibset, too. :)

Personally, I don't like it, I think of an 80-year-old.

But that's just my opinion.

[identity profile] mairelys.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha definitely cuter than Edna!

I think it could grow on me though. There's a character in a Spanish show I watch called Mabel, but it's pronounce like ma belle which is french for "my beauty" (Hey! just like the meaning!haha), and I thought that was sweet.

But.. that's probably irrelevant.. lol!

It reminds me of Mad About You :)
Mothers Always Bring Extra Love

Beat me to it! haha. Loved that show.

"mah-bull"
"Mah-BELL..."
MABEL!

[identity profile] giveitfullheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How would you pronounce it? Rhyming with table, right?

I don't know how I feel about it. Part of me thinks it's cute but part of me thinks grandma's best friend.

[identity profile] giveitfullheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely see what you mean. Most people associate it with old ladies because they haven't met any young people with the name. Things change a lot when the idea is actually in front of you and in use, ya know? If she grew up to hate it, Bel is always an option :-P

Mabel is one of those names that I always forget about, but love when I remember.

[identity profile] aimeewins.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
love it. it's becoming one of my faves.

[identity profile] satunian.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate it, personally, but I do think it would age well, actually. I can see it fitting a little girl, an adult woman and an older woman

With Van, I actually like it a lot.

Although, I'm sure she'll get "Mabel is a cow name/COW!" jokes as a kid.

But, I'm biased because you used the name Ezra as a middle name, which is one of my all time favorites ever, so I'm suspecting Mabel will have a rad middle name as well. :) Plus, I like the nickname May.

[identity profile] tryyingtoevolve.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it!

[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like the name Van, but I do not like Mabel at all. I can only see it on a very old woman, or a cow. I just don't like the way it looks or sounds. And to me, it doesn't really go well with Van. Mabel sounds so old, and Van sounds a lot younger.

[identity profile] makeitstopjamie.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Mabel could work. It has a little bit of an old lady feel, but it's still kinda cute.

[identity profile] diamond-eyes18.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's too old-fashioned for my taste, it reminds me of an old lady name. I do like the meaning, and I think the nickname "May" is really cute.

[identity profile] seasonofspring.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like Mabel. I don't think it's 'old lady-ish' at all, in fact, I think it sounds great for all ages. And the nickname Mae is really sweet.

[identity profile] aaww-my-bees.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Mabel! It's one name I've been thinking of.

[identity profile] twitchywoman.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it. It was my great grandma's name, but I didn't know her that well and don't really remember her.

[identity profile] blue-suspenders.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really care for it.

It automatically makes me think of Pirates of Penzance, lol.

[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
i think its kind of nice.

it reminds me of 'mad about you' (its what they named their baby girl at the end of the series) and helen hunts character said it stood for "mother always brings extra love" which has kind of stuck with me. its still a little...old for me, but i like that she could be nicknamed mae.

[identity profile] shortbutfast.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
i like van
mabel makes me think of miss mable... and 80 year old english ladies drinking tea.
