[identity profile] mtvtruelife08.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Hi all, I hope you don't mind my posting in this community. I work for MTV's True Life in the casting/research department and we're trying to get the word out about our new episode, "I'm Having Twins!" The casting call is below, and anyone who's interested can contact me directly. Thanks!!

TRUE LIFE: I’M HAVING TWINS

Are you pregnant… with twins, triplets, or even more? Were you previously unable to conceive, but with the help of fertility drugs, now expecting multiple babies? Are you concerned about the financial, physical, and emotional toll of taking care of more than one newborn, or the possibility of complications during pregnancy or birth? Is this your first pregnancy, and perhaps an unexpected one? Were you looking forward to an active lifestyle or career that you are now going to have to put on hold? Or is this the first step in creating the big family you’ve always wanted? Have you always wanted twins, and now your dream is coming true? If you’re pregnant with multiples, MTV wants to hear from you.

If you appear to be between the ages of 17 and 28 and identify with any of the above, MTV wants to hear your story. Email us at twins@mtvn.com. Please be sure to include your name, location, phone number, and a recent photo.

I know it's spam, but LORD OH LORD, I would love to meet a 17 year old who is pregnant with quints after using fertility treatments... and the doctor(s) who would likely be sued for helping with such a cockamamie plan!

In many states it's illegal for you to be having sex if you're under the age of 18. It depends on the age of consent. It's very rarely enforced, but as doctors are mandated reporters, an underage teenager who comes to them for fertility help would be something they would have to report to social services, regardless of reproductive rights laws. Besides, also in many states, you are not allowed to have an abortion or gain access to over the counter EC pills if you are under 18 without your parents' permission, so in many cases, those reproductive "rights" that should be universal really don't kick in until a person is 18. So yes, a doctor could definitely be sued for that, as well as prosecuted for not reporting it to social services. And possibly as an accessory to statutory rape, depending on the circumstances.

It's kind of awful that they'd rather have a 17-year-old pregnant with triplets on their show than a 30-year-old... But I guess that's television for you.
