Forgive the brief RANT about bad names.

PLEASE FOLKS...don't name your daughter RAECHAEYL (Rachel) or your son AERYKK (Eric). Please use the spellings in parentheses or something much closer to it.

Did "Hooked on Phonics" not work for you or something? You seem like highly intelligent parents, so what are you ON that you chose such oddball spellings for common names? Do you not realize the difficulties your children will have through life between their teachers and their peers? Maybe if they're smart, when they become adults they'll change it to a better spelling for their sanity's sake.

Thank you.

End rant.

Wow, those are awful! Did you run across these names or are these people you actually know (not that it matters)?

I LOATHE "creative" spellings. Parents look illiterate and, if it's still said the same way, why change the spelling?

I used to live on a street with a weirdly spelt name. It drove me insane as every time I had to give the address I had to spell it out, usually more than once, sometimes I even had to use the WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT thing. Oh, the relief when I eventually moved to a street with a normal name...

The moral of this story is, I hope, obvious.

One of the reasons I don't mind changing my maiden name to my husband's last name is exactly that! My maiden name has a silent "dt" pair in the middle of it and has an e instead of an o, but is pronounced exactly like the more common version: "Benson."

Same here. My street right now is spelled incorrectly and I tell my husband all the time "When we buy, we're picking a house based on the street name."

These are beyond Scrabble names. I shall unilaterally decide that these are Boggle names: random combinations of letters someone is valiantly trying to force into being a name.

I like the idea of a game targeted at kre8tyve parents called LETZ MAYK BAAYBEEIZ! or something. It would include a bunch of letters - mostly K's, Y's, and Z's - a book of bad contraceptive advice, a bottle of vodka, an egg-timer and a lucky glass frog ornament.

But is Aeryicke really a variation of Eric? You're still shouting the same noise on the playground.
