[identity profile] willsjoy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I'm a girl scout leader, and we have a new girl joining the troop this year whose name is Kiera. Ok, fine.

Her mother's name, however, is Willow. I'm having the hardest time talking about her and keeping a straight face (haven't met her yet, I'll meet her tonight). I think it's lovely for a baby and for a little girl, but once you're a grown woman with kids of your own...yeah.

Oh, and she lives a street called Moonbeam Court. :)

I don't see what's wrong with Willow. I mean, it's not my style, but it's certainly a hell of a lot better on a grown woman than, like, Nevaeh or Kaylee or something.

I don't like Willow but it could be worse. Imagine if her name were Precious or something like that.

But I know what you mean. People need to realize they are naming a child who WILL grow into an adult. Sure, a 6 year old girl named Precious might be cute, but when she's 32? Nuh uh.

I know a woman in her early 30s named Precious, actually. And yes, it was weird on her. Yes, the awkwardness of calling her Precious never left.

Haha, I'm always reminded of that episode when I hear the name Precious!

I've never watched Friends (never could, I'm only 15!), but LOL. Yeah, pretty much! I didn't have the heart to ask her if she minded being called by her middle name. XP

I like Willow, but I agree that it doesn't age well at all. [livejournal.com profile] tryyingtoevolve was right when she said that, compared to other trendy names' aging factors, it's a lot better.

I think Willow is a middle-name-only name.

I don't really see how Willow is all that odd, or why it would make you laugh, even if it is a grown woman. I think it's a great name.

i met a little girl named willow a couple of months ago. her parents were uber hippie dippie, and the girl was 7 and already seemed to be outgrowing it. seriously. i had similar thoughts about the name. its cute until youre, like, school-age.

I don't think Willow is that bad. I guess I just can see it growing as an adult because I associate it with the Buffy character and I can see her as an adult woman.

Willow is ever so...ugh and precious. I imagine someone really passive aggressive with perfect hair.

Perhaps that's why I read Moonbeam Court as Moonbeam C*nt at first glance...
