So a few days ago I asked you guys what you thought of Gabriel. The response was pretty favourable. I'd like to update and ask what you think of the first/middle combo Gabriel Phineas (our last name starts with an S and it makes my husband giggle geekily that the initials would be GPS).

Hebrew name would be Gavriel Pinchas.
Gabriel we just like and Pinchas (the Hebrew form of Phineas) was actually the name of Hubby's late Bubbie's little brother who died in the Holocaust. We actually have a photo of Bubbie Shaindel and her brother as small children on our mantle. Hubby really didn't know that this was his name but when he picked Phineas/Pinchas as a middle for Gabriel, I pointed to the photo and said "Like Bubbie's brother!" and that made him like it more I think.

His 8 year old cousin Daniel's Hebrew name is Pinchas too but I don't think it's a huge conflict as it will only be a middle name for our kid if we use it and the kids don't go by their Hebrew names anyway.

This got really long, sorry! The point is Hubby loves this combo and it is growing on me though I don't want to make a commitment just yet and I wondered what you all thought of it?

I think the connection with the middle name is great, but the only thing I worry about is the 's' sound at the end of Phineas blending in with your last name, assuming it's a soft 's' sound, too. It might sound like hissing, which wouldn't be ideal, IMO.

Phineas as a standalone name I do not like because of Phineas and Ferb, but I don't mind it in this case as a middle. =)

I think that could get a little hard to say, yeah. You'd have to really distinguish the sounds when you pronounced them, which might get annoying, and I think it could potentially run together a lot quicker than other ending sounds. Is there another variation you can think of that doesn't end in an 's' sound?

I really love Gabriel Phineas, and I don't think it will blend that much with your last name. Just for arguments sake, let's say your last name is Shalom (lawl). Okay so, Gabriel Phineas Shalom. I don't think it runs together. It's mostly if your name ends in a vowel and the next one starts with the same vowel is when it runs together.

Kind of off topic, but Pinchas was the Torah portion I read at my bat mitzvah!

I really really like it. Phineas is one of my favorite names of all time. And if it blends together its not that big of a deal. Are you going to be calling by all three names every single time you say his name? :)

I like both versions of the name; they flow well, IMO. I enjoy the history behind it, too.

Absolutely wonderful. I think you've got a winner there. I'd most definitely use Gabriel Phineas.
