I like Harper for a girl, and Mackenzie is acceptable but I don't like it at all. Parker is a boy's name, if any, and I hate it regardless of gender.

For boys, I like Elliott (although I would consider this more a first name that once in a while is a last name) and Porter.

Other than the ones you mentioned:
Girls: Allison, Piper, Shannon
Boys: Nolan, Sawyer, Ryan, Emerson, Dawson

(PS - I just listed the names that are very common as last names; Levi, Calvin, Dwight, etc. might be last names on occasion, but like Elliott, I tend to think of them almost exclusively as first names)

For the most part, I really like using last names as firsts. If we have a boy, my fiance and I are planning to use my last name as the first name.

As for other names, the only ones for girls I can think of are:
Anniston (this is actually a co-worker's granddaughter's name), Berkeley, Leigh, Robin

And boys:
Brannon, Cooper, Corbin, Henry, Lennon, Owen, Patton, Preston, Ramsey, Tucker, Wade

I pretty much hate them all. They almost always sound either pretentious or tacky. There are a few exceptions, though, and obviously that's just my personal opinion.

I secretly really like Hathaway for a girl.

Alison a diminutive of Alice, so =/= surname.

Yeah, but Allison with the double L was originally a surname. I guess it's kind of a grey area, though, since generally people are using Allison as an alternate form of Alison.

Right, but Allison is a rather common surname.

My mother's maiden name is Munro and I'd like to use that somewhere, as a middle name maybe. I will probably spell it Monroe though.

I think Mackenzie is cute too, while it doesn't fit my usual style at all (if there is a style, that is) ;). I wouldn't use it either, though. Too trendy, and I don't like that Mac means 'son of'. I also like Harley & May.

Roman is high on my list, and I also really like Elliott and Harrison. Morrison is nice too.

Emerson (for both sexes) is nice.

To me, Hayden is 100% a girls name. I love Bennett and Paxton.

The ones I like: Elliott, Porter (my mom's maiden name), Griffin, Ryan, Blake, Reese (but I like it spelled Rhys), Tyler, Kent, James, Bradley, and Jackson.

I also know a family (of boys, ironically) whose last name is Shelley. I know it's only a nn for girls, but some people use it for a full name in rare instances.

My sister had a boy named Parker McKenzie in her grade, and there was a girl in the grade above them named Mackenzie Parker.

All your favorite girls' names seem masculine to me. And I hate Mackenzie as a name. A lot.

I can see on girls you could think it nice for the Em-, similar to the popular Emma and Emily, but the -son?

Not seem. You mean, 'are'. And I agree with the Mackenzie statement. A lot.
