As I posted somewhere below, I knew an Analia once (pn.Anna-Leah), and yeah, she got Anal-leah sometimes. Only by 15 year old boys with too many hormones, though ;)
I'm waiting to see the show's treatment of her before I cheer, but I agree that it's definitely good for them simply to include a woman with a trans history in a women's competition.
I like:
Analeigh (I like the idea here, but this spelling is sort of gross and I can't figure out how to make it better) Elina (I like Elena) Hannah Joslyn (It's a secret! They broke my spirit and I kind of like it now) Marjorie (Hot damn I love old lady names)
im of the mindset that "if they even choose a transgender woman to be top 20 (or top whatever), that alone is a milestone regardless of anything else"...but you guys are right, treatment does make a difference
Even if she won, her career would be quite restricted. She'd always be labelled as the transgender model, and a lot of advertizers just wouldn't want their product to be associated with a transgender woman.
Elina and Elena are two different names, in my experience, it's not a misspelling or spelling variation (although like Elena, it might be a variation of Helen, but I still sonsider it a different name, like Sean and Evan are both variations of John, but different names still). It's very Russian. I grew up in a Russian neighborhood so I went to school with three different Elinas. I also knew three different Alinas, though one was Russian and two were Armenian.
Oh, I've never though that Elina is a very Russian name since I feel that is is a very Finnish name :D I've never met a Russian called Elina but I know a lot of Finnish Elina's :>) But many names that are used in Finland are also used in Russia.
Oh maybe it is a finnish name the russians adopted like Bella. of all the Bellas I've ever known, they've ALL been Russian, even though it's a latin word. Or of Latin origin I mean. But I've never known any French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Romanian girls with that name, only Russian.
I've never actually met a Finnish person. I don't think Finland is too economically poor. I live in Queens, NYC, so we're a whole melting pot of different ethnicities but the majority of them are from economically poor countries. Some people I know have such sad stories of how they got here too, like all the Uzbeki Jews that fled... But anyway, yeah, lots of Russians named Elina (and Bella)
