[identity profile] hotchpot.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy is a book detailing five or so generations of an English family in the late 1800s, early 1900s, and it has some of the best names I've come across. Yay Forsyte fun! I stongly suggest you check out the old B&W miniseries. Some of the best actors from the golden age of the BBC miniseries are in it. The new Masterpiece Theatre version was pretty crappy, in my opinion. About half the people seemed painfully miscast, and the costumes and sets were not nearly as accurate as the older version.

Joylon is generally pronounced with two syllables, JOL-yin. Like Roydon in Thackeray is RAW-don.

I've never been a fan of the English pronounciation of Irene. Much prefer the American i-REEN.
