I love Harry, both on its own and as a nickname. I think I prefer it as a nickname, for Henry (I don't like Harold, and Harrison is a last name to me) because there are other nickname options. I think Harry is really sweet on a little boy, but I prefer Hank on an adult, so I like that it's versatile like that.
Love love love Henry. I don't mind harry on it's own. I think it's better Henry nn Harry, but most people wouldn't put those two together as the same name.
I don't think of Harry Potter alone, I think of Prince Harry & my cousin Harry.. but again, most people would probably think Potter. (not that it's a bad thing!)
i like henry but without fail, harry has always equalled hairy to me. i know that's immature and everything but whenever i hear harry i think he no doubt has carpet shoulders.
and yeah i'd immediately think of harry potter as well.
I always think of Prince Harry. I don't really get the point of naming a kid Henry and then calling him Harry; same length and two letters different. I like Henry better. That usually makes me think of Prince Harry too.
There was a really sexy guy in my HS named Harry so I imediately think of! That's the only positive thought I have associated with the name though. Other than that I really don't like it very much. :)
I love the name Harry. It's my cousin's name. (He's about 3). I do immediately think of Harry Potter, but I think it's classic and I love it. And it's not so bad that I can't get past it.
I don't like Henry as a full name for it, because I can't see where anyone gets Harry from Henry. Or, why you would nickname a two syllable name with another two syllable name. But, that's just personal preference.
I'm not fond of the name in general, but if I were going to use it as a nickname for anything, it would be for Harold.

Date: 2008-08-13 02:46 am (UTC)Usually I think of it as a nn for Henry, but I like it on it's own too. I don't think of Harry Potter, but then again, I never read those books.
Either Henry or Harry is a fabulous choice. :)
