What do people think of two parents with the same initial naming their kid the same initial as them?
I ask because I'm Megan, my Mum is Margaret and my Dad is Mike. We all have the same first and last initial which can get confusing when letters come addressed to MO and we don't know who it's for xD Now I go by MSO with my middle name in there (Sarah) to stop confusion lol.
I also think it's cool that Megan is a variation of Margaret, so it's like my Mum named me after her but not the same name xD
And how does everybody pronounce Megan? I pronounce it Mee-gan, but loads of people pronounce it May-gan. I've been told (by my father no less!) that May-gan is the correct pronounciation and that Mee-gan is the wrong one. When I asked him why they decided to pronounce it the "wrong" way he didn't have an answer xD
You'd think it would be an easy name to pronounce but EVERY teacher I had at school pronounced it May-gan. One teacher couldn't grasp the fact it was pronounced Mee-gan and called me wrong for the whole year x_x

Date: 2008-08-11 02:47 am (UTC)I guess with the way it's spelt, meg-an is the most appropriate, but I like the sound of Mee-gan better, probably because I'm used to it.

Date: 2008-08-11 03:24 am (UTC)Personally, I pronounced Megan as Meg-anne. I go by Meg (and have people constantly calling me Megan because of it) and so it seems weird to pronounce Meg- as Meeg or Mayg.

Date: 2008-08-11 03:47 am (UTC)I don't like it when parents deliberately give their children the same initial as them. If I was in that situation, I would try to avoid it at all costs, but if I absolutely loved a name with the same initial far more than any other I suppose I'd still use it. I do know someone who completely restricted their name choices to start with M for all their kids, because both the parents started with M. That makes no sense to me--- you are already sharing the same last name as them.. what's so important about sharing the same first initial? You're not giving everyone in your family EXACTLY the same name, so why is the initial so important? I find it confusing and unnecesary. But oh well... each to their own lol

Date: 2008-08-11 04:45 am (UTC)I don't generally like the same initials thing, because it can get SO confusing. Same middle initials is one thing, and with just 3 people, it might not be so bad, but when you get to the fifth or sixth kid, it's ridiculous and has ceased to be cute a long time ago.
