Makes me think of Alvin and the Chipmunks, but in general, it's not a bad name. There was a guy (probably 18 or 19, I think he was a freshman) in one of my lit courses last fall named that. He was kind of geeky, but in an okay kind of way. It suited him. I think he went by Al with his friends, but our prof always called him Alvin and after a while I stopped associating it with the cartoon.
definitely makes me think of alvin & the chipmunks. and it's funny how my mom almost named my older brother alvin. either alvin or connor. so glad my dad named my brother instead (his name is anthony)
There was a lady who lived on the next cul-de-sac from me and she had a grandson named Alvin (he'd be 19 or so right now). He lived with her for a while and everyone referenced the Chipmunks. I really don't think there is anyway to get around that, well except for moving to some place where Alvin and the Chipmunks have never been introduced.
