What do you think of the name Cordelia?

What would you use as a nickname for it? Delia or something else? Also, what middle names sound good with it?

I've never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer but I understand that this was a name of a character? Do you think that makes it too...trendy?

Also, what do you think of the nickname Rhett for Robert? Too out-there? Too Gone With the Wind? ;)

I don't think it makes Cordelia trendy at all; Buffy/Angel have been off the air for a few years now so if it was going to get popular, it already would have.

I do like it, but it always makes me think of her, and I never particularly liked that character, since she was kind of a bitch.

I like Delia or Codi as nicknames for it. I HATE the nickname Cordie, because that's way way way too Buffy for me (since that's what they called her) and because my friend's cat is named that, after the character (yeah, lesbians have really bad taste in TV character names; I'm willing to admit this for my people).

I like Rhett, but I'm not so sure it works as a nickname for Robert. I guess it could work?

Beau could be really cute. As I said in another comment I like Rhett, it's just not a nn for Robert. How about just using it as a given name?

What do you think of Robby? I've always preferred it over Bobby, and forgive me (I know plenty of Bobbys), but it sounds less bumpkinish. And when he gets older IMO Rob sounds better than Bob, something to think about since whatever choose will evolve as he gets older.

As for Rhett vs. Robert-- I think Robert is nice, but kind of a boring stock name. Rhett is romantic and has a bit of a cool factor to it. If I were a boy I'd rather be a Rhett. ;) I also think I'd be more attracted to a Rhett than a Robert (lol, sure you're not concerning yourself about girls liking him ;)).

i have never really liked the sound of cordelia. it just doesn't sound very attractive to me. i don't think cordelia is trendy, it sounds very old fashioned, if anything, to me.
and i would never thought rhett a nickname for robert, haha. but i suppose it's doable.

I know you didn't ask me... but..

On Buffy/Angel the different characters tend to say it differently at different times. Personally, I tend to go with Cor-deel-ya, but sometimes say the other. My name is the same way-- some people say (Meredith) Mer-dith, others say it Mer-ah-dith. Even I say it both ways, usually more syllables when accentuating the word. If you end up using it, she'll probably get called both.

Cordelia Jane comes to mind, but maybe only because I like Jane as a middle name at the moment.

I have a cousin Rhett, about 8 or so, and I went to high school with one. I like the name, personally, GWTW or not.

I love Cordy for a nickname.

I think that it's a traditional enough name and lots of time has past since Buffy and Angel that I wouldn't assume that is where the name came from - unlike Willow which screams Buffy to me.

I can't really see Rhett as a nickname for Robert. I don't like the name at all and yeah, I think of Gone With The Wind.

i personally don't like cordelia at all. it sounds... overly dramatic to me. like one of those women who are hysterical, theatrical actress/poetress types. sorry, i hope this isn't harsh. hehe.

very gone with the wind but i don't think it's horrible. :]

I don't like Cordelia. If I were named Cordelia, I would insist on being called Cory all the time.

I love Cordelia just b/c of Buffy-her nn was Cordy, I prefer that to Delia.
Robert does not work with Rhett, sorry. Rhett is a name of its own.

I just had to throw out that I love name Rhett, and I'd be using that if my husband wasn't a poo. I mean, my name IS Tara =)

I think the name Cordelia is pretty uncommon, but people are probably going to make the Buffy/Angel reference. Lol, it's much better than the actress' actual name anyway! I wouldn't use Delia.. already it's own name IMO, but I would use Cordy. I don't really care for Cordy much, but people might end up calling her than anyway.

I think Rhett would be very cute, but isn't it already a name in it's own right? I think the older generation might immediately make the GWTW association, but probably not his peers.

Rhett for Robert seems quite far-fetched. Is it a commonly-recognized nn for Robert?

I like Rhett but not Robert.

Cordelia = Buffy *nods*
Also, it's soooo confused with Cornelia, it's annoying.

Oh, I'd use Corde (prn like Cordy) as a nickname.

For middle names, I like Cordelia Samira.

Well, I don't even think that Cordelia is in the top 1000, so I wouldn't worry about it being too trendy. I'm sure that everybody who's seen Buffy will instantly recognize it though. That's the only thing I can think of when I hear it.

I don't get Rhett from Robert at all. Rhett is a name all on its own.

For Cordelia I'd n/n her Dells.

Rhett I think is short as they come and Robert could be Rob, Robbie, Bob, Bobbie or Bert.

When I hear Cordelia I think Shakespere, even though I was a HUGE Buffy fan. King Leer forever, IMO

I like Delia better than Cordelia. Too King Lear for me.

Cordelia is gorgeous. But then again King Lear is one of my favourite plays :P I'd do Cora as a nn, it seems to work imo.
