Lily over Lilly. I'm not sure if I prefer it as a full name itself, or short for Lilian, I go back and forth.

I prefer Lilia as a full name, with Lily as an occasional nickname/

I prefer Lily. For some reason (probably because of the flower) the second L seems redundant to me.

I also like Lily better as a full name than as a nickname for anything.

I prefer Lilly (because to me it's LIL-lee, not lil-EE), but never as a nn. I don't really like many of the names that it's a nn for, like Lillian. My step-daughter's name is Lilyahna and we just call her Lilyahna, full name, no nns.

If I knew your step-daughter, I'd call her Lil. Lilyahna is way too long to use in everyday conversation. At least where I'm from, we shorten everything.

I usually do, too, but for some reason she's not a "Lil". She's a Lilyahna.

A friend of mine has a son about her age, and he calls her Lily and it's really bizarre to hear. She asks him not to, because she doesn't like it. So he says, "Lily-AHHHH-na" all drawn out in a cute voice.

Lillian w/ Lilly or Lilian w/ Lily, since it makes more sense to me to match the number of L's. I don't like nicknames as stand alone names.

I like Lily as a nickname for Elizabeth. I don't particularly like either Lily or Lilly as a stand-alone name, but I think the spelling Lily is more sophisticated.

Lilly looks like the name of a tumbling chubby kid to me. I agree with the poster who said the spelling Lily is more sophisticated.

Yes, a full name is a better option (business card test always in mind!)
I like Lilian, nn Lily.

But Lily is quite versatile, even Emily could work as a full name.

Lily, Lilly, Lilleigh, Lillian...all just one of my least favourite names.

Lily. Regardless of whether or not you're naming her after the flower, you should still spell it correctly.

I sort of like Lillian and I like Lily as a nickname for Delilah and Elizabeth.

I like Lily, and as a full name.

I do like Lilly too, it just makes me think of one of the cats I had growing up as that was her name. lol.

I prefer Lily, because regardless of whether the name has anything to do with the flower, it IS still a flower. The alternatives, to me, are kind of like naming your child "Roaze" instead of just Rose. I'm weird about that kind of thing though.

And, I prefer it as the full name. Lilian seems too old to me, and while I think Lilianna is pretty, it's too long and just doesn't seem right.

I like Lily. another option is Lillie, which I don't like, but it's better than Lilly, IMO.

I personally like Lily better--it's my favorite name. I have a little cousin named Lilly, though. I had a great-grandmother named Lillian.

Lily, as a name. That's the proper way to spell the flower. Also a nn for Lilith.

Lilly is okay as a nn for Lillian.

Lily for the same reason as others - it's the spelling of the flower. I wouldn't say I "prefer" it, but Liliana has caught my attention lately, and I think it's very pretty. Although they've both been growing on me, I probably wouldn't use either name, as they're both shooting up in popularity as of late.

I prefer Lilli. I think its a fine name on its own but if I had to use a longer name I'd probably use Lilliana. I hate Lillian.

My daughter is named Lillian and Lily is her nn. I hate the way Lilly looks written (or typed)

Lilly; I agree with Lucindrielle (to me it's also LIL-lee, not lil-EE, plus I've just grown to prefer it, even though it's technically 'wrong'.

I think it's perfectly fine as a standalone name, but I really love it as a nickname for Lillith. I don't really like Lilian/Lillian and I really dislike Liliana.

I like Lilly, but I know an amazing Lilly, so I am biased. It seems like more of a "proper" name than Lily, which make me think of the flower first.

I know I Lili but she pronounces it more Li-li than Lily

Lily.

I prefer just plain Lily, but I think Lilian, Lilia, and Lilias are all very pretty.

I really like the name Lily by itself. I prefer the one L spelling.

I also have been liking the name Lilith lately. I don't really like Lilian, though.
