I just finished reading Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the Twilight saga, and one of the characters in this book has quite possibly one of the most hideous names I've ever heard.

The main couple, Edward and Bella, have a daughter, whom they name Renesmee (pronounced ruh-NEZ-may). I wish I were joking. Bella combined her mother's name, Renée, with Edward's mother's name, Esme, and came up with... that. The child's middle name is better -- it's Carlie, a combination of Bella's father's name, Charlie, and Edward's father's name, Carlisle. So, the poor thing's full name is Renesmee Carlie Cullen. Really, I was quite disappointed in Stephenie Meyer, because, previously, her main characters all had such lovely names:

Emmett
Esme Anne
Isabella Marie [Bella]
Jacob
Jasper
Mary Alice [Alice]
Rosalie Lillian

I wish I knew what happened to her naming taste.

I was totally about to say was it Renesmee. I haven't read the book (or the series for that matter), but I keep reading about BD everywhere, so I think I've read it by association.

I'm glad to have had the pronunciation clarified - it sounds okay in theory but it's not something I'd ever consider.

Yeah, Jacob starts calling her Nessie, and it catches on with everyone. Bella gives in by the end of the book. I felt so bad for the kid.

Twilight was my favorite of the series, but I totally agree that the saga has become way over-hyped thanks to a overly rabid fanbase. The books, not including this latest release, were good, but nowhere at HP levels.

Also, Albus Severus Potter > Renesmee Carlie Cullen. And I never thought there would be a name that Albus Severus could beat.

Well, Edward's technically, like, 105 years old, and by BD Bella is nearly nineteen, so the teenage parents stigma is sort of removed.

A human-vampire hybrid. Her heart beats, but she still looks a bit like a vampire. And apparently she'll become a teenager by the time she's seven, and then stop aging? It was all really horrible. I'm trying to block it out.

I about barfed... I didn't want to read Breaking Dawn but I just had to finish out the series. The whole book felt like Stephanie Meyer found her favorite fan girl fanfic out on the web and published it...

Edward really didn't have a say in the matter of what his kid was going to be named. He just always gave into what poor little Bella what she wanted.

I completely wish the kid had been a boy. At least it would have gotten a much better name! (Bella was going to name a boy Edward Jacob, if Renesmee had been one)

At first, when Bella was so sure that the kid would be a boy, I was really irritated, because I feel like, in fiction, women are always presenting their husbands with a longed-for son, but when I learned that the choice was between Edward Jacob Cullen and Renesmee Carlie Cullen, I completely changed my vote for the gender. Sigh. It figures that she'd chose the crack!name. It fits with the WTF-ness of the rest of the book.

Haha, I was "WTF, Stephenie?" all throughout the book, but I digress. The worst part was when Rosalie was complimenting Bella's choice, though, and telling her that the name was so pretty and unique. I wanted to vomit.

Twilight was a steaming pile of crap and everything after that continued much in the same vein, and Renesmee was the crap cherry on the sundae of crap. IMHO :D Seriously, I will never understand the hype about these books, to me it seems as though a twelve-year-old on ff.net wrote them.
